Very little is known about Saint Teilo, to whom the Anglican parish church of Llandeilo is dedicated, but he seems to have travelled around Wales because there are several other churches dedicated to him in other places. He is believed to have made Llandeilo his main base and be buried there, although Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff has disputed this. There is a legend that after his death, his body was placed in Llandeilo church and three clergy from different churches prayed that he could be buried in their churches (Llandeilo, Llandaff and his birthplace Penally in Pembrokeshire). In the morning, three bodies were miraculously found, so that an authentic body could be buried at each church.

In 2014, Penally was briefly a magnet for birdwatchers; thanks to a sojourn there by a rare vagrant, a Great Spotted Cuckoo. The Isles of Scilly (chief settlement Hugh Town) are, thanks to their geographical location, big on that same scene -- many specimens of bird species seldom seen in Britain, land up there.

Former Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson was born in the Huddersfield suburb of Cowlersley, but was educated at the Wirral Grammar School for Boys in Bebington, which at that time was in Cheshire.

Castlebay was used as the main filming location for the 1949 comedy film "Whisky Galore", based on the eponymous book by Compton Mackenzie, who was born in West Hartlepool, Co. Durham.

Another "arts person" -- less famous, one feels, than "Mr. Whisky Galore" -- also born in West Hartlepool; was the figurative painter Margaret Green. She died in Saxtead, East Suffolk.

I am not convinced that Minsmere is a settlement- it might well have been once - having referenced Wikipedia and Google Maps. However, if it is, Fairburn near Castleford is also adjacent to a bird reserve.

I was of the opinion that having permanent staff on site at the RSPB there at Minsmere would constitute a settlement.

Whitehaven in Cumbria, like Fairburn, is another settlement in which alabaster deposits heve been quarried.

The poet William Wordsworth frequently visited Whitehaven but in his early years he was brought up in nearby Cockermouth.

Bude, Cornwall: is also mentioned in John Betjeman's poem The Town Clerk's Views -- views looking favourably upon the "uglifying and drearifying" of Britain, and thus abhorrent to the poet.

Spike Milligan -- author / comic / performer -- attended school in Catford; and during his long career, made flights-of-fancy "reminiscence" involving Catford, part of his stock-in-trade. He died, aged 83, in Rye, East Sussex.
