The Italian balloonist Vincenzo Lunardi landed in the parish of Ceres after his first flight in Scotland in October 1785. A couple of weeks later, on 5th December, he flew from St. Andrew's Square in Glasgow to Milton of Campsie, a large village formerly in the county of Stirlingshire, but now in East Dunbartonshire.

Dunfermline Abbey parish church was designed by the Scottish architect William Burn (1789 – 1870). It was built between 1818 and 1821 on the site of the medieval choir and transepts which had been the eastern part of the Abbey. William Burn also designed Ardanaiseig House, near Kilchrenan, Argyll, which is now a hotel.

Kilchrenan churchyard contains the tomb of Sir Colin Campbell, who was killed in the nearby Battle of the Red Ford against the neighbouring MacDougall clan in 1294. The seat of the Clan Campbell is at Inveraray Castle in Argyll & Bute.

Heptonstall church yard contains the grave of "King" David Hartley, leader of a ruthless gang of late eighteenth century counterfeiters based in nearby Cragg Vale. He was hanged at York on 28th April 1770, for complicity in the murder in Halifax of excise officer William Deighton.

Irresistible to me -- one of the various goofy "clerihews on British places" from the book of general "humour", published in the 1940s, which we had at home (apologies if I've used this one already in the game):

You can't get Watneys
At Totnes;
But Beer
Is quite near.

(Actually it isn't, really -- being about as far east as you can get in Devon, whereas Totnes is closer to the middle of the county.)

In January 2014, Porthcothan was affected by Storm Anne, which reduced a local arch, Jan Leverton's Rock, to rubble. Another place where there was damage from the same storm was Rock-a-Nore, an urban area of Hastings, East Sussex, where saturated ground and heavy seas led to a section of cliff to collapse, which was filmed.

Before formation of PTEs at the end of the 1960s, another town whose Corporation Transport Department painted their buses a shade of pale yellow* was Wallasey.

* Wallasey's local buses were universally regarded as being yellow, although the colour was officially known as "sea green". There's an urban legend about how this choice of colour came about - well outside the scope of this thread!

A good number of Cornish and Welsh settlements have Twin Town arrangements with places in the Brittany region of France

Penzance is one of these, another (twinned with Pluguffan) is Llandovery in Carmarthenshire.
