The disc jockey, radio presenter, record producer and journalist (and the longest-serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004), the great John Robert Parker Ravenscroft OBE (1939 – 2004), known professionally as John Peel, was educated as a boarder at Shrewsbury School. He was born in Heswall Nursing Home in Heswall on the Wirral Penninsula, and grew up in the nearby village of Burton.

We have a problem. Both Heswall and Burton have been emboldened, so I am unsure with which of those two do you want the next settlement to be associated.

Adjacent to Glympton village is Glympton House and its surrounding Glympton Park; in the interests of the landscaping of which it seems that, some time in the 17th century, the landowner had the entire village of Glympton "shifted" by about a quarter of a mile. This kind of thing happened quite often in those times -- full marks to the landed proprietors for appreciation of beauty, less so for consideration and humanity ! Matters took a similar course the following century, concerning new country house and surrounding park at Nuneham Courtney not far away -- just on the other side of Oxford.

Ickleford Cricket Club play in Saracens Herts Division 1 (although at the bottom). They have won one match this season, beating Holtwhites Trinibis, from Enfield, by twenty six runs. (Come to think of it, Enfield used to be in Middlesex when I lived there!)

Brackley, Northamptonshire, also lies on the River Great Ouse; but near its opposite end.

Hinton-in-the-Hedges in Northamptonshire was also once under the jurisdiction of the Brackley Poor Law Union.

There seems to be an emphasis, re the above-bolded settlement, on a certain name -- in the 17th century, the rector was one Salathiel Crewe; and the village has a hostelry called the Crewe Arms. The mind cannot help but go to the sizeable town of Crewe in East Cheshire.

(An item in the Wiki entry on Hinton-in-the-Hedges, is irresistible to quote. "The village's name means 'Community's farm / settlement'; the affix means 'in the hedges' ". Well, no ****, Sherlock ... )

The magic of Google informs me of the one-time post of "dog whipper" -- a church official charged with removing unruly dogs from church grounds during services. Wrenbury's parish church contains what used to be a designated dog whipper's pew; while an example of the instrument used in said official's task, is preserved in the parish church of Baslow, Derbyshire.

Bath is another factual settlement which is also mentioned in works of fiction by Jane Austen -- in more than one of them, in fact. (The wretched woman keeps showing up in this game <D -- as I must have mentioned before, I find her unreadable: my fault not hers, I have no doubt.)

There is also a well-known and well-regarded regular flower-show event, bearing the name of Harrogate; though I don't think it takes place actually in that town.

The Three Counties Showground (those counties being Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire) is situated near Malvern. Simliarly re "showground with wide catchment area", is the East of England Showground a few miles out of Peterborough.
