The parish church of Munford is St. Leonards. It has a Three Manual Organ built by Harrison & Harrison of Durham in 1912. Another of their organs can be seen (and heard) in St George's Church, Douglas, Isle of Man.

The first regular boat services linking the Isle of Man with the mainland began, with early steam boats, in 1819; with Douglas an intermediate stop on the boats' route between Greenock and Liverpool (the famous Isle of Man Steam Packet Company came into being a little later).

Princetown in Devon is also the location of a prison (Dartmoor, of course) with a long-standing reputation for being especially disagreeable to be an inmate of.

The Two Bridges Hotel, at that settlement, was formerly known as the Saracen's Head. Far off in south Lincolnshire, another inn of that title: has given its name to a hamlet, essentially conjoined with the nearby village of Holbeach Clough.

It is considered that Winthorpe's name may come form the Old English wynne throp = "hamlet of joy". The mind turns, along those lines, to Merrybent, County Durham (near Darlington); though Wiki offers no theory as to the derivation of that one's name.

The Teesdale Way passes along the north bank of the meandering River Tees to the south of Marybent. Another small settlement which is on the route of the Way is the small village of Over Dinsdale in North Yorkshire.

Newton Morrell is on a named but unclassified minor road leading from near to the junction with the A1(M). This road ends at the junction with the A66 (M) after passing through Stapleton, another small village and civil parish in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire.

Bolam lies just off the B6275 road, which is a part of the Roman road called Dere Street. A few miles south along that road, is the village of Piercebridge, County Durham.

Men from Senghenydd participate in one of the world's longest running epidemiology studies – The Caerphilly Heart Disease Study. Since 1979, a representative sample of adult males born between 1918 and 1938, living in Caerphilly and the surrounding villages of Abertridwr, Bedwas, Machen, Senghenydd and Trethomas, have participated in the study. A wide range of health and lifestyle data have been collected throughout the study and have been the basis of over 400 publications in the medical press. A notable report was on the reductions in vascular disease, diabetes, cognitive impairment and dementia attributable to a healthy lifestyle.

Stenalees is in Treverbyn parish (St. Austell region); Baal Pit china-clay extraction site, in the parish, has been used as a filming location for "Doctor Who"; as has Frensham Common, Surrey.

The veterinary practice of Noel Fitzpatrick -- TV's "Supervet" -- is based in Lower / Upper Eashing. He was born in Ballyfin, Co. Laois -- a little way west of Port Laoise.

Ballyfinn is said to be the birthplace of Fionn Mac Cumhail, a figure in Irish mythology who ate the Salmon of Knowledge and so acquired all the knowledge in the world. There are parallels with the story of the Welsh poet Taliesin who is said to have drunk from the Cauldron of Knowledge, with the same effect. Taliesin's birthplace is unknown, but his traditional burial site is at Tre-Taliesin in Ceredigion.
