The Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen is currently Camilla, Duchess of Rothesay (this being Scotland).
Among Camilla's other appointments is Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Leeming, an air force base located in North Yorkshire near Leeming.

On the first floor of the tower of the Parish Church of St. Ebba, Ebchester, is a clock by Potts & Sons of Leeds; another clock by the same company was installed in the Town Hall at Lerwick in 1887.

Ullapool as a port -- previously a tiny, insignificant hamlet -- dates from 1788. Its design for its port role was by Thomas Telford, whose genius of course extended to the designing of very many things throughout Britain. One of those was the cast-iron aqueduct for the Shrewsbury Canal at Longdon-on-Tern, near Wellington, Shropshire (canal now disused, but the aqueduct is preserved).

Verging on cheating, perhaps: some forty miles north of Kinnersley is Kinnerley, Shropshire -- name differing by only one letter ! (Kinnerley of course has "significance for the likes of us", beyond the remit of this game, but involving the activities of a certain Colonel...)

Douane in Perthshire is another settlement where Red Kites can be seen in flight.

The above-bolded settlement was at one time renowned for the manufacture of pistols. In fiction anyway -- maybe in fact -- the same (indeed, re guns in general) applied in times past, to Dumfries.

Famous in Edinburgh lore, are the grisly doings of the "body-snatchers" (illicitly providing corpses for anatomists) Burke and Hare. During the times when this activity was profitable, it was also a scourge of the cemeteries of Dublin: the extremely well-informed historian of these Dublin doings, being one Dr. John F. Fleetwood.

The Wiki entry for Robertstown says under "wildlife", that "...mammals such as shrew, stroat [sic] and rat, are all observed locally". The shrews will be pygmy shrews -- Ireland's only native species of said creature. The pygmy shrew is also the only native species of land mammal found on Lundy Island.

Scarinish on the Isle of Tiree is also the ferry terminal for boats from the mainland to the island.

The only bank on Tiree (Royal Bank of Scotland branch) is in Scarinish. Sark (which I think counts as a settlement name -- don't think its "town" has a separate name), Channel Islands, I believe nowadays also has just one bank (HSBC).

Rochdale also has a twin town in a (non-Russian) former republic of the old Soviet Union. Stevenage's "twin" is Shymkent, Kazakhstan; Rochdale's is Lviv, Ukraine.

Rochdale claims to be the birthplace of the Co-operative Movement, the "Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers" being formed with a capital of £28 in 1844. However the "Fenwick Weavers Society" predated it by 75 years, being formed in 1769 in Fenwick, East Ayrshire.

Hackney has lent its name to private hire cabs, originally horse drawn with a distinctive gait. The headquaters of the Hackney Horse society are at Tytherington near Warminster

Hoxton was once part of the county of Middlesex until 1889.
Potters Bar likewise was in Middlesex until the county was virtually abolished in 1965
