In the days before PTEs and the National Bus Company, Ossett was served by Yorkshire Woollen District buses - an operator who used letters rather than numbers for some of its routes (e.g. the "D" ran between Dewsbury & Ossett).

The writer, journalist and cricket commentator John Arlott OBE (1914 – 1991) was born in Basingstoke. In 1961, he bought a former pub (The Sun Inn) in New Alresford, Hampshire and renamed it The Old Sun. He lived there until 1981, when he moved to Alderney in the Channel Islands.

The radical politician Henry 'Orator' Hunt died in New Alresford in 1834 after suffering a stroke while on his travels. He is perhaps best remembered as the main attraction at the meeting on 16 August 1819 at St Peter's Field, Manchester, which was attacked by militia in the 'Peterloo Massacre'.

Moving on ... The Church of England Parish Church of St Mary, Hullavington was begun in the 12th century. Restoration took place in the early 1870s and the tower was rebuilt in 1880, both to designs of A W Blomfield or his nephew Reginald Blomfield. Another example of the work of the former is the Church of St Mary and St Ethlebert in Luckington, Wiltshire, which dates from 1872.

Hymn tunes again; there's one named after Luckington (which I hadn't known about, till consulting Wikipedia just now) -- Crimond (Aberdeenshire: between Peterhead and Fraserburgh) also gives its name to a -- well-known and -loved -- hymn tune.

At St. Neots, the River Great Ouse is joined by the River Kym; which -- called the River Til in its upper reaches -- rises some dozen miles to the west, near the Bedfordshire village of Yielden (alternative spellings Yelden and Yeldon).

The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Yielden is a Grade I Listed Building, and is a good example of a village church mainly in the Decorated style. The Trailly family originally received it from the monks at Thorney Abbey early in the 12th Century and it was confirmed to them by a charter of Pope Alexander III in 1162. Thorney Abbey is now the Church of St Mary and St Botolph, Thorney.
