In the 1840s one visitor to the Nun Monkton would have been the novelist Anne Bronte and her brother Branwell. During her time as a governess to the Robinson family at Thorpe Green, Little Ouseburn, Brontë taught the children of the rector of Nun Monkton. The Bronte family are more often associated with the village of Haworth, West Yorkshire.
