The suffix -wich in a place name indicates salt production. Pre-1974, Tintwistle was in Cheshire’s narrow ‘salt corridor’ which extended to Yorkshire at Saltersbrook Bridge to avoid tolls.

The Canny Toon
The Tolworth Tower in Tolworth, completed in 1964, is a 22 storey office block (now to be converted to flats) designed by George Marsh of Richard Siefert's practice. As well as Centre Point and Space House in central London, Marsh also designed the Alpha Tower in his native Birmingham.
