Old Edlington also sits on a geological fault which gives rise to a spring, this time between the Permian limestone and clay.

The Emirates Air Line was one of a number of fatuous projects backed by Boris Johnson, current MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, when he was Mayor of London, but the only one to be completed.

On the bank of the Thames at Staines is a monument called the "London Stone" which marked the upper limit of the City of London's jurisdiction. There are two similar lower markers, one on each shore. The southern one is at Yantlet Creek, near Grain.
