I cannot trace a settlement with the name of Orfordness (noting this is the Settlement Association Quiz) but have traced an area of cuspate foreland shingle spit on the Suffolk coast named Orford Ness.

I believe Orford Ness is used by the BBC and it has a good view over the North Sea from the lighthouse and is a military area.

In fact the shingle spit is called Orford Ness but the transmitting station and associated establishment was known as Orfordness. It has now closed down, since the BBC has given up most of its foreign language services. Anyway, if it will make everyone happy - the function of Aspidistra was transferred to the Orfordness transmitting station at Orford Ness, near Aldeburgh.

The munitions factory known as ROF Elstow was situated south of the village from 1942 to 1946.

The author H.E.Bates wrote The Tinkers of Elstow about the factory in 1946. He is buried in Canterbury, Kent.

Flowton Priory was in the village of Flowton for 400 years, after being built in 1525. In 1928 it was moved brick by brick to Harpenden, Hertfordshire, after its owner, a wealthy family member, ordered it to be deconstructed and reassembled.
