In Manchester ‘Peter’s Field’ was the place where the crushed 1819 protest was held, commonly called ‘Peterloo’.

The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield is famous for (among other things) being the host of the World Professional Snooker Championship since 1977.

In the last year before the Championship moved to The Crucible (1976), it was held at two venues. The top half of the draw was held at the Town Hall in Middlesbrough and the bottom half at the Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester, which also hosted the final.

The late, great, Eric Morecambe was a vociferous supporter and one-time president of Luton Football Club. He was born, with the name Eric Bartholomew, in Morecambe, Lancashire in 1926 but sadly died in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire in 1984.
