Like Ketford Banks (which is in the hamlet of Ketford), Edgehills Bog is a nature reserve in Gloucestershire in the Forest of Dean and is also managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

The bog lies at the eastern edge of Haywood (Heywood) Plantation and is half a mile north of Cinderford, Gloucestershire.

The Settlement Association Quiz!

This works in exactly the same manner as the Station Association Quiz, only this thread concentrates on the thousands of inhabited locales throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland instead of their railway stations. As such, a small request has been made in the Station Association Quiz to keep everything in that thread railway-related from here on.

----------------------------------

Rules of the quiz
  • Settlements may be anywhere in the United Kingdom.
  • A description of the association should be incorporated in each posting, without simply posting the name only.

Noting what is said above, is any settlement in the Isle of Man allowable?

The Isle of Man is a Crown Dependancy, and therefore not part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) and Northern Ireland.

The parish of Lezayre in the Isle of Man is also the location of a Gliding Club.

Ah ... I think that it isn't, after all. This is what Wiki says:

"The Isle of Man is a self-governing crown dependency in the Irish Sea between England and Northern Ireland. The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who holds the title of Lord of Mann. The Lord of Mann is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. Foreign relations and defence are the responsibility of the British Government.

The island came under the feudal lordship of the English Crown in 1399. The lordship revested into the British Crown in 1765, but the island never became part of the Kingdom of Great Britain or its successor the United Kingdom: it retained its status as an internally self-governing Crown dependency."

(And Mr A Challenge has put it simpler, but none the less correctly!)

So, staying with the airborne theme, here's a substitute:

The Vale of Neath Gliding Club operates from an all grass airfield at Rhigos, near Glynneath, South Wales.

I think perhaps places like the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man should be allowed in this game.

Cwm-parc is also just on the Rhondda Cynon Taff side of the border with Neath Port Talbot.

Another vote for Crown Dependencies being included in the game; I'm Manx so if nothing else I'll be able to make up clues based on bizarre occurrences in my youth. Actually; that's probably a reason not to put it in; but I digress
Another coach hire company whose name is a pun is headquartered in Hawkinge

Who are the four accredited forum quizmasters, please?
