Here is something that only recently came to my attention when researching a totally unrelated matter....

Wick, (the one up at the top end of Scotland), also has historical connections to an all-girl pipe band.

Chilwell in Nottinghamshire was also the scene of a disaster in 1918. Eight tons of TNT exploded at the National Shell Filling Factory killing 134 people.

The site where the explosion took place later became a major depot for the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC). For many years, RAOC recruits were posted for initial training at Hilsea Barracks in Portsmouth.

Supposedly Bram Stoker based the fictional Kingstead (the final resting place of the unfortunate Lucy Westenra) upon St Mary's graveyard in Hendon when he wrote "Dracula." The English location most famously associated with the novel, however, is Whitby.
