Staines came to popular culture with the urban character Ali-G. He was a creation of the comedic actor Sacha Baron Cohen who attended Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School in Elstree.

Thomas Trubshaw, [who,incidentally, lived for only 40 years] also designed the parish church at Hilderstone, in addition to that at St Stephens's, Great Haywood.

Bradford-on-Avon is another settlement where there could be confusion between it and a settlement of the same name but without the suffix.

Langley (Norfolk), as both have an independent school. Ditcham's is called 'Ditcham Park', while Langley School's address is Langley Park.
