One of Workington's oldest traditions is the uppies and downies game that takes place annually around the Easter holiday time.The game is very similar to the old football played in Elizabethan times.

The church at Edzell was built in 1818, to replace an earlier church that was structurally unsound. This new church was designed by the architect David Neave. Another of his work, in collaboration with Robert Stevenson, was the design and construction of the High Lighthouse at Tayport in Scotland. This marvellous structure is also known as Tayport West.

The Guisborough Helmet is a piece of Roman Cavalry headwear found in 1864. Similar helmets have been found across Britain and Europe. Another Roman cavalry helmet was discovered in Cumbria in May 2010. This is known as the Crosby Garrett Helmet, after the place it was found - Crosby Garrett.
