Turnditch has a pub with the relatively unusual name of the Tiger Inn. There are, however, several others in England. The nearest to me is, I think, the Tiger Inn at Stowting in Kent. Rather far for a quick pint, however!

There is a mound at Stowting which is reckoned to be the remains of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle -- a fine example thereof. Similarly endowed, is Launceston, Cornwall.

The Swiss / French writer and philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, on a visit to England, stayed in 1767 at the White Hart Inn, Spalding. His contemporary, fellow-French-language "Enlightenment" figure, and largely kindred spirit, Voltaire: had a sojourn in England, where he dwelt chiefly in Wandsworth, Greater London.

A thing which I have used in part, in the past (re the Scottish element) -- Bacup's coat of arms features assorted fauna, including a squirrel. The coat of arms of Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, has as supporters a pair of squirrels (as depicted, they look to me more like rabbits, but with long bushy tails !).

Wiki often gives good value re arcane clerical stuff -- making verbatim quoting, hard to resist. Born in Middlewich, was Theophilus Lindsey (1723 -- 1808), "who inspired the Feathers Tavern Petition against clerical subscription to the Thirty-Nine Articles, and so helped start one of the most profound debates within the Church of England in the 18th century". It seems that we are not told the whereabouts of the Feathers Tavern concerned; however, Stapleford, Nottinghamshire (halfway between Nottingham and Derby) has a hostelry of that name.

Shalbourne, Wiltshire -- a little way south-west of Hungerford -- also has a church dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels.

There is a degree of rivalry between hills, not far from each other, in the Berkshire Downs: as to which is the highest point in south-east England. Contenders -- both at any rate closely approaching 1,000 feet above sea level -- are Inkpen Beacon; and Walbury Hill, near the village of Combe -- also (just) in Berkshire, a couple of miles south of Inkpen.

The satirical novelist Tom Sharpe -- his most acclaimed mockeries directed at South Africa; and Cambridge University -- lived for a while in Bridport. Part of Sharpe's schooldays were spent at Bloxham School, Bloxham, Oxfordshire -- a few miles south-west of Banbury.

Luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin had a factory at Bloxham for a time, where their DB7 model was built.

Aston Martin's largest current production facility by area is in St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.
