I'm an atheist but I did find the poppy burning gravely insulting. Deportation? Nah. Life in prison? Probably.

Really? I found what they did offensive but you're suggesting a sentence far in excess of what someone would get for a serious assault?
It is the greatest sign of disrespect to our war dead possible, they are utter filth who frankly do not haver the right to liberty (NB - I would say this of any man who burnt a poppy or did equivelant, don't play the race card). Don't worry, murderers, rapists etc would get the same.
Perhaps, but if you're going to start jailing people for disrespect you're going to be very busy.
Lord give me strength, how many times have I heard this effing argument. The fact of the matter is that you can go anywere, observe any religon you want, and you will always get a small pocket of idiots. For the people that think cristianity is entirely peaceful, i'll destroy that argument easily, The Crusades, where British Christians when off to the middle east and started killing everything that moved especially muslims, and has evryone forgotten that the IRA were catholic. Also Islam has its wallys (my best mate was killed by them) but they only account for a small portion of the overall muslim population. I've been to the Middle East and have generally found the locals to be nice people. this argument seems to have turned into overt racism from some quaters (naming no names three nine zero come in somewhere) something which i dispise with a passion, and im shocked to see that far from realising this and locking the thread up and throwing away the key, a mod is actively taking part in a wholly misguided and totally ill-informed disscussion. I'm sorry if my comments on this matter offend people, but after all thankfully we live in a free country where i'm allowed to say what I like, and I speak as i find and what i find stinks to high hell.
I'm not continuing this discussion and I won't be posting on these forums again, you all seem to be liberal types who are impossible to debate with because you refuse to acknowledge any opinion which is slightly 'right wing'.

People have said in the past that they like the fact that the forum staff spend more time posting in railway discussions than moderating. Unfortunately you're in a minority and would clearly rather we didn't share our knowledge or opinions.Islam is a religion, not a race. So I have said nothing racist.
And that 'moderator', Yorkie, has also sent me a completely uncalled for private message suggesting that I have autism simply because I have a different opinion to him. Mod professionalism ftw.
I consider myself right wing; indeed I am a paid-up member of the Conservative party, but I don't believe in hate of religions which I know little about.I'm not continuing this discussion and I won't be posting on these forums again, you all seem to be liberal types who are impossible to debate with because you refuse to acknowledge any opinion which is slightly 'right wing'.
What was said earlier about the stoning to death of women, rape and homosexuals, is it a religious thing, cultural, abit of both or one in the same?
I asked if you did, I did not "suggest", because as I already explained to you, if you had said yes I would have taken this into account when responding. I have not acted as a moderator in this thread, by the way.And that 'moderator', Yorkie, has also sent me a completely uncalled for private message suggesting that I have autism simply because I have a different opinion to him. Indeed as I have told Patrick if anyone has posted anything offensive he needs to use the 'Report' button.Aside from ainsworth74, there are quite a few right-of-centre people on here. To be honest I wouldn't quit over something as pointless as that - if you found yorkie's PM offensive let a member of staff know.
Agree totally. There was no need for it, and now the person who did that has had many people challenge his views and ask him some questions that he is unable to answer, perhaps he regrets making such extreme claims. Someone who claims to be the number one Pendo fan and number one Voyager hater, while entitled to those views, does come across to me as someone who, for whatever reason, is a bit extreme. Hopefully one day he will have an open mind and realise things are not always black or white.Don't know why religion came into this thread - the appalling behaviour of these idiots has nothing to do with religion. The 'punishment' handed out is a joke. End of.
"Please mind the gap when alighting the train".
"We are now approaching our final destination".
"Exit here for Buckingham Palace".
The men burning the poppies were trying to be offensive, like 4th formers swearing in class. A juvenile approach to life like that deserves a piddling sentence, which they got. If they had got anything worse, they would have achieved what they wanted, publicity and a sort of martyrdom. I can't see them hanging round with their mates bragging how they stood up to the infidel and got....a small fine.
The poppy represents all of the British people who have died fighting in wars. Burning that symbol could be viewed as being racist against the British. MAC are a very racist group, theres no point denying that. They've said in the past that they view non-muslims as inferior and it is okay to kill them.
My thoughts toom when I saw this and the mention of British indigenous I thought it shows how far the BNP and EDL nonsense has spread.British is not a 'Race'...
next??
Like the (false) stories about pubs not being able to fly the England flag during football tournaments as they've been told it will offend people. It's a lie, but within seconds of the stories circulating the web gets all the people saying 'If they don't like it, they can **** off home' and 'Let's teach them a lesson and ALL fly our England flags and wave them in their face.

It's these stories (well, not this one specifically but similar ones) that always seem to bring out the racism or xenophobia in people too.

Music to the ears of the BNP and EDL, who are probably behind the stories in the first place.
In my mind, someone is free to do what they want to protest or make a statement - and it's my right to ignore them and just tell them to **** off. It's a free country and I'd like it to stay that way. That doesn't mean we're supporting terrorism, or any other criminal act.
For the above story, it's a public order issue and should be dealt with as such. End of story. Move on, nothing to see here. Why give them any publicity over something trivial?
What offends me is the way that people with racist agendas have effectively misappropriated the flag, so such an extent that certain people do find it offensive. I usually don't fly the thing, but if I wanted to (for a Test match or the jubilee or whatever) I'd risk being accused of being an extremist, which really annoys me. The flag belongs to the whole nation (artificial construct or not). I, part Irish, have just as much right to fly it as anyone else, so the extremists should give it back.
