I would point your question at Citylink as I know they used to accept them for local journeys like Cumbernauld to Glasgow or Baillieston to Glasgow but may have changed as they are not listed on spt website. Or they have never accepted them and us drivers never cared

Last year I used a Campbeltown bound Citylink bus to go a couple of miles to Great Western Road (with an over 60s pass). It just so happened that was the service recommended on Google maps on arriving at Buchanan Street. However this is different to a zonal ticket. What a single fare is I don't know

Thanks, I did find that one shortly after posting but it shows several vehicles which haven't been out in months as well as vehicles on Stagecoach services. I guess it'll have to do if there's no better lists available.

If I'm cynical, at this time of year most of the passengers are visitors. And the others are Scots either 22- or 60+ and don't pay - and the ScotGov pays a %age of the standard fare so there is no incentive to keep fares low, indeed every incentive to keep them high. And to subsidise winter services.

Try buying a day return on these services in place of a single and see if it lowers your fare. For example Glasgow to Aberdeen is £39.30 single but a day return is £20. Might get it cheaper that way.
Also maybe price up buying an Explorer ticket as well. When I used to drive the buses to Fort William which went on to Skye it was cheaper to buy a 3 day explorer pass than a single

Depends on the service - buses to Fort William/Inverness/Oban/Campbeltown are all generally rather busy this time of year and worth booking, but I find aberdeen runs and 900/902/909/AIR etc. are generally fine to walk to. Your mileage (quite literally) may vary, of course

You really can’t tell in advance as I’ve seen drivers refusing unbooked on a 75% loading due to bookings further up the route that they have to leave free. Since it only costs £1 for both legs, it’s good insurance if you must complete your journey. Conversely, I’ve been to Inverness and the driver didn’t bother - only wanted to swipe the card. Swings and roundabouts…..

There's an issue on those Oban and Fort William coaches which meet at Tyndrum and exchange passengers. For example, the 978 to Edinburgh has to leave space for an unknown number swapping from the FW to Glasgow bus, and vice versa.

Add Inveraray to your list - the Oban and Campbeltown services seem to sync up there too, but as to the OP’s point, for 50p a booking is a useful safety net.

But presumably only for those passengers who have booked. I would assume that outside the summer peak very few locals book.

It's a shame that there isn't a smart solution so that drivers can access this information in real time on their phone.

As someone buys an Oban to Glasgow ticket, the Fort William bus has 1 less ticket that they can sell to Glasgow. And vice versa.

A few got on at Broxden. A few got off to connect with the M10.

I used the 913 last year to get to Fort William, albeit on its last weekend running. I was the only person who made connection from Dundee/Forfar/Aberdeen at Broxden but there were a few changing from other routes (I think M8 Stirling).
