Reported by a friend that loco was coupled to 385120 earlier.
Unable to confirm if it is this that has moved.

Scot-rail.co.uk reporting that it was 385120. They are expecting 385119 and 385121 to move north next week to complete the delivery of the Newton Aycliffe based four cars with the remaining 3 car units to follow over the remainder of May.

A trip to Glasgow yesterday found 24 385s operating out of Queen Street with 385036 in use. No 385s were noted at Central. The Shotts services were using old units.

Tallies with what I've seen. I've only once seen a 385 at Glasgow Central so far. I imagine that will change dramatically over the coming weeks.

385s are only doing a short Cathcart diagram in the morning peak, and one Shotts diagram during the day which goes onto Cathcarts in the evening.

Occasional 4 car may well operate too. I don't think the Edinburgh to Glasgow services can yet run 8 x 23m yet.

I suppose, certainly there seem to be a number of 4-cars on SDA workings. Though I imagine the eventual set-up would be 3-car on the Edinburgh-Dunblanes.

Broadly the expectation seems to be that the last units will arrive in Scotland in either late May or early June. So far they have been taking about a month from arriving in Scotland to fully entering passenger service so I'd expect all the 385s to be available for service by around mid July.

Of course given they're expected to work a number of different routes that doesn't mean Stirling - Edinburgh can't go fully electric sooner than that.

Now as with anything this may have changed, but the document detailing future service patterns and stock had down 6-car at peak for Edinburgh-Dunblane I'm sure.

Certainly the commitment for 4 car made at the public meeting in peak was in error under pressure or cynically reneged on. I suspect the former. I think the three car is sufficient speaking selfishly as a Dunblane commuter I get a seat but from it can be standing . Given the loss of a direct service at 7.30. All told less capacity . Perhaps come Dec things may change.

Off topic I noted today a rake of connected 156 at Haymarket depot 5/6 sets connected as one which is a rare sight . About to head south I assume ?

6 car 156 services are relatively common on East Kilbride and West Highland services. You also sometimes see them on peak Kilmarnock services.

If by heading south you're asking if they're going off lease with ScotRail then I don't think so. The 5 156s that left Scotrail for Northern went in December 2018. Originally another 4 156s were going off lease but my understanding is that these four have had their leases extended until the end of the franchise giving Scotrail a total of 43 156s (39 leased from Angel trains and 156478 which was written off but is now subleased from Brodies).

This is backed up by the fact that 38 of the Angel 156s have been refurbed / repainted and another 2 are currently at Kilmarnock. Its unlikely ScotRail would have paid to repaint / PRM comply units that were about to go off lease.

I think the unrefurbished 156445 and 156453 are the last two units still operating in the old First Scotrail / Barbie livery. One is likely to be withdrawn for refurb in the next week or so with the last one done by the end of May. A few 314s in Carmine and Cream and 4 sub leased 170s in Plain Blue are the other non standard liveries.

I’d imagine if the Dunblane/Alloa splitting service continues to run it will be a 6-car (2x3-car) 385. The Perth diesel service will probably remain as it is.

Other than that, 3-car should be sufficient. Linlithgow & Polmont made up around 40% of the capacity on those services and they were the ones that usually had to stand. If they remained calls on the Dunblanes then 6-car running would be essential, but not so much now.

Not sure your logic holds up there. Get the train (from Larbert) to Edinburgh park a couple of times a month and have to get the 0645 to get a seat.

Having never been so regular on Dunblane-Edinburgh I can't really comment on how they are in the peaks, but certainly the Dunblane services I have seen always seemed busy as 4-car and a bit squished as 3-car. The Glasgow-Dunblanes always seem much quieter.

As a disinterested observer, I was looking at the May schedule for the SDA services. I see that the peak Edinburgh service which divides at Stirling now runs to Dunblane ahead of the Aberdeen train which is held at Stirling for four minutes.

It would be DMUs (156/158), not sure any of the other EMU classes are passed for the line and I doubt any drivers sign them that sign Shotts.

No idea. Operationally though it would make sense to once there are sufficient 170s freed-up for a cascade.
