Something has left Haymarket Depot earlier today, presuming it's the start of the 170 C6 Overhaul as mentioned before...

I think it's 170401 that's gone across.
It most certainly was 170401

One to keep an eye out for, 170401 could be heading back for Haymarket if it does run tomorrow...

I'm not seeing a run for another unit to go yet, but it'll be interesting to see what they've done both inside and out on 401.

170406 reportedly moved to Doncaster on Wednesday: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K48400/2025-12-03/detailed

Looks like 170401 not leaving Broadies until Sunday, with another going in on Sunday

Yep, nothing has come out today and those two paths have just come in this morning as well.

It can't have been, it's been in service today in the central belt.

What is special about 401s overhaul?

It's going to come out in the same livery and presumably, same interior, just refreshed, so the the average passenger, it'll just look a bit smarter?

Nothing special, but it will have an interior repaint, new seat covers and carpet, USB C chargers and the first class removed. Most of the work is on the electrical and mechanical side, but should improve reliability.

How come is the first class being removed?
Not needed. There will still be enough of the later batch units with 1st class to use on long distance services or cover for HSTs These are normally used on routes where 1st class isn't needed. (Borders, Glasgow - Dundee, Fife circle etc).

If they're only keeping First Class on the later 170's, that'll only be 13 units that will have First Class operation on long distance which are 170425-170434 and 170450-170452.

Yup, should be fine. HST availability is fairly consistent these days, very few substitutions and long term the class 222 should be even better. The 170s will be used mainly on suburban routes with no need for first class. Sensible decision.

They're badly needing it. This was on one last week.
The badly worn seat in the picture below wasn't the only one on the set too.

Was fun that one time I travelled first class for no additional cost between Glasgow and Anniesland. Atleast it was actually a cosy one, unlike the 385.

First class on most of the 170s is a disgrace anyway with the curtains hanging off or missing, broken table lights, worn out seats that are permanently reclined and filthy walls and carpets. It's embarrassing that customers are actually paying extra for it.

It really is a mess. They need new first class seats on the 13 that are keeping it
