The FNL timetable is confusing me too. For normal operation the staffing works like this:

0618 WCK-INV - Wick crew, swap at Lairg with 0700 INV-WCK
0802 WCK-INV - Wick crew
1234 WCK-INV - Wick crew
1600 - Inverness crew from 1041 INV-WCK

0700 INV-WCK - Inverness crew, swap at Lairg with crew of 0618 WCK-INV
1041 INV-WCK - Inverness crew who then operate 1600 WCK-INV
1400 INV-WCK - Wick crew who operated 0802 WCK-INV
1831 INV-WCK - Wick crew who operated 1234 WCK-INV

Disappointed that of the peak Edinburgh-Glasgow via Falkirk services that are being cancelled, it is all of the ones that stop at Lenzie and Bishopbriggs that are being axed rather than keeping some of those at the expense of a few Linlithgow-Polmont-Croy services.

Possibly because Glasgow to Alloa is being kept at 2tph, while Edinburgh to Dunblane reduces to 1tph. So Lenzie and Bishopbriggs still get 2tph, but otherwise Polmont and Linlithgow would lose out more?

You're probably right. It just seems illogical to completely remove one service pattern from the timetable, and it will be quite inconvenient for those wanting to travel between Lenzie/Bishopbriggs and Edinburgh. They obviously saw enough demand to introduce the service in the first place!

Those stops, indeed, those whole services in the first place, are primarily about capacity into Glasgow. They're not really there for Edinburgh, hence there's no service to Edinburgh except for the weekday peaks and one late at night. In 2019 there was no service at all between Edinburgh and Lenzie or Bishopbriggs, save the one late night service.

Given that it’s being implemented at short notice, the temporary timetable will primarily be about operational convenience.

Having been notified by Scotrail of the temporary timetable I note that the changes are in summary only rather than specific detail. So for example the Borders Railway says hourly core service during the day with a two hourly frequency in the evening. Surely more specific times could be given than that?

I imagine it's a quick summary just to give an idea of reductions.

The full details will be uploaded this evening by 2200, it may be that they were still finalising things this morning, so couldn't be more precise.

It is very naive to assume that once the Scottish school summer holiday is over that drivers in ScotRail will suddenly make themselves available for rest day working again.

Surely once the kids are back at school the need for rest day working will reduce, because fewer staff are on holiday? That was certainly always the case during my railway career.

Seems like an incredibly large reduction tbh, I'm looking at leaving Aberdeen southbound tomorrow morning and there's nothing before 7am, which totally ruins my plans! Although ScotRail are still selling advance tickets for all of the earlier trains, so should I get up early and pray they're still running?

Their journey planner and app are still showing and selling tickets for the full June timetable service.

Have ScotRail got any plans to cancel services this evening or tomorrow morning due to the heavy rain that is forecast?

That will only really affect the Sundays at the start and end of the holiday blocks which people might work if they're not away. My depot has 11 people on holiday pretty much every week of the year. There's not any more people on holiday over the summer than at any other time.

There seem to be some errors in some times under certain routes, so I'm wondering if the Far North has an omission by mistake?

Unfortunately, despite them saying their journey planner has been updated, I'm still getting the full timetable displaying in searches.

I could not find actual timetables just now, only first/last times and frequencies. And then there is this weirdly worded sentence on the temporary timetable page.
.
"Details of the temporary timetable can be viewed below, and train times are available in Journey Planner in the coming days."

I've done some research, on their twitter is says that journey planners for tomorrow will be updated by 10pm and for the weekend, it'll be updated by tomorrow

Hmm, I'm waiting for 10pm to compare the summary to the actuality because there are a few things which read more so as errors but it is also not inconceivable that they aren't errors just weird alterations.

Would delay replay apply for a ticket booked before the journey planners are updated for a train which no longer exists? For example, an advance ticket which references the non-existent train.

I imagine once the journey planners are updated they would not accept claims for trains based on the normal timetable if the ticket was purchased after that time.

A terrible way to treat passengers, our management knew this was coming weeks ago and we are still caught on the hop.

They haven't said how long, but given that they were operating the June timetable just about okay before now (there were some cancellations through the weeks but nowhere near as many), September would seem a fair estimation.

Not sure how the recruitment/training is going either, to bolster staffing levels.
The all thing nothing has to do with recruitment.
This happened before and will likely occur again in the future everytime a deal is not achieved or it is not satisfactory.
Drivers are working to the rules for the time being whilst the Union is negotiating a fair agreement for both the Company and employees.
Simple as that.
All the rest is pure nonsense speculation filled with if, but, maybe, perhaps, often coming from someone who doesn't even work for the railway.

At least the Glasgow-Edinburgh might be able to run as 8 cars now instead of the pathetic 4 that a couple of diagrams are at the moment according to realtime trains!
Even worse, a 3!

It just seems to be showing weather cancellations for the Aberdeen to Inverness line. Although, some of them don't exist on the temporary timetable.

We shall see what happens at 22.00 when everything seems to update.

**EDIT**

Looking at Realtime Trains for tomorrow, it seems for the Aberdeen to Inverness line some local services are cancelled on both sides of the line, and some trains have 20 mins extra time added to their arrival in Aberdeen or Inverness.
