Scotrail have extended the temporary timetable until at least 29 September,
but
“there will be some additional changes to the timetable on Sunday, 1 September, and some services might differ from those shown below. Please allow extra time for your journey and check your journey on the ScotRail app the day before you travel”

Does this mean they may gradually add some services as some/many drivers may make themselves available for rest day working, in effect adding “extras” at short notice onto the temporary timetable or could SR actually make some permanent journey restorations?

I think the "additional changes" most likely means "some services which are shown as planned to run will not actually run".

They've perhaps looked at how many guys will be out on booked Sundays and see what they then can run.

It means Celtic play Rangers on Sunday lunchtime which means Driver availability on Sundays is generally lower in the West of Scotland.

I'm considering a trip to somewhere on the Oban line for mid-September. I've been looking at RTT it seems that most of the timetabled trains are running reasonably reliably; will that continue through September, I wonder? Does anyone know how crowded they are?

Does anyone know what the Dalmally - Oban and vice-versa services are? I assume these are not normal. Are they truncations of trains that normally run to Glasgow? They could possibly be useful for me.

The Dalmally - Oban and return services are school trains but open to the public.
The young folk finish at Oban High School and catch the service to Dalmally.

Quite a long commute for those high schoolers if they go the whole journey length. Though to be fair its in a remote part of Scotland.

You think a village on a trunk road is remote?
Many pupils at Oban HS travel further. And if you live in Tyndrum its 35miles to school in Callander.

Considering mine was less than 4 miles from me, it seemed pretty far.

ASLEF won't need to lift anything because, as has been repeatedly stated on this thread and on other social media platforms, there currently isn't any ASLEF industrial action taking place within ScotRail.

I predict that by the end of the week coming there will be a substantial increase in drivers available for rest day working, and that services will be increased.
Why do you think that hasn’t happened?

For example, have SR management decided the current service level doesn’t lose as much money / the public have adjusted (some perhaps have abandoned the railway) / only marginal enhancements will be added as and when demand warrants it etc and - as a consequence- the need for overtime will be significantly reduced going forward?

Whilst most depots appear to have some level of rest day working availability over the last 2 weeks, I suspect ScotRail are playing it safe and not wanting to jump the gun so to speak, and increase services incase the referendum result is a NO vote and o significant return to rest day availability is seen, however going on the chat in several bothies I've been in since the deal was negotiated, it will be a YES vote.

Thanks for the insight.
Do you think there is a risk that the full timetable will not be reinstated?

I suppose there would be nothing to stop drivers voting to accept the deal, then continuing to be unavailable for overtime.

Pay rise plus good jobs. Win win.

Well no, naturally. Overtime should always be voluntary. However, as many posters have already noted, in normal times it's rare for there not to be takers when it's on offer.

Ballot paper received today, been annual leave but going by the feel of discussions before I expect the offer to be accepted as well.

It will be interesting to see if the full timetable (pre the lack of drivers working rest days) is reinstated or if SR decide not to reinstate some journeys until at least the December timetable, or not at all.
If it's the case that Unite and RMT have already settled, and Aslef and the remainder are likely to settle (is it?) then I'd expect ScotRail to attempt to run the full passenger service they've bid from December change date. There could of course be further temporary adjustments until then, or even after then.

Right at the start of all of this there were lots of changes too, Leven opened very shortly before they moved to emergency timetable, and Ayr were resuming a significant portion of their work after a long hiatus of many many months. I don't know, of course, if they're all sorted now in terms of training backlog or what.

It was hinted that a second Leven and a second Barrhead shuttle could be being bid in December, but it would seem they have not been. I don't know if those have been included for the next period or not.

The second Leven per hour (extension of existing Glenrothes) was always forecasted for May 2025.

Any additional Fife services would mean pulling rolling stock from elsewhere. They had to pull a number of Aberdeen local services ahead of Leven opening to free up sets for the current timetable. It would make sense to wait for the HST replacement to free up some 170s or East Kilbirde electrification to free up some 156s.

Sorry if the wrong place to enquire but does anyone know why the 16:04 Mallaig - Glasgow QS on September 21st is showing as not setting down or picking up at Fort William 17:37? It’s only that day.

Hst diagrams go up to 16 in December and then proposed 19 in May next year which allows the extra units for Leven to go every half hour

Allegedly that's a temporary measure...

Good question. Data gremlin? Maybe worth creating a new thread.

What could possibly go wrong? Utter madness stretching the fleet like that, especially with the lack of spares and general decline In the fleet.

Hopefully we don't get a scenario where the "released" units spend most of their time continuing to deputise for HSTs and the "enhanced" Leven service is often more notional than actual.

I think we know that is exactly what’s going to happen!
