It is the local stops that eat away capacity. There aren't many freight paths but enough you would need the timetable in the hours they run, to apply through the off peak.

Having a freight path in the middle of the evening peak doesn't look too clever at is would prevent a 4+2 peak timetable if 2 locals were possible.

I daresay it would be better to divert any freight via other routes if it couldn't be accommodated within a 4 fast 2 stopper timetable.

The choice is this. A small number of longer express trains, interspersed with stoppers, which run according to a reliable timetable, or a theoretically wonderful timetable which never works, a shambolic service of piddly trains which are constantly late and cancelled, and nobody happy except the civic boosters who are the only people who asked for the changes in the first place

This is not fully related but, i saw an EMT set coming into Malton headed toward York at about 5.15 today, was unsure weather it was in service or on a railtour or something, looked like a voyager class 222

Has this service ever been HST operated ?
Find it strange that LNER dont operate to Scarborough , though must be to do with stock requirements

Indeed. 20 years ago there was a Summer Saturday Glasgow-Scarborough, however the stock was deemed more valuable on the mainline. Actually the first summer it stopped they ran a Glasgow - Peterborough service in the same path as the Scarborough train (there was not time for it to run to LKX and back), not sure this was more valuable though! The following year it had disappeared totally but with more trains running LKX-Waverley as a proper timetable re-write.

Yes. Although it's more recently operated by the Class 222, it was regularly worked by an HST.

I was at Scarborough the week before last for the first time in years, it brought back memories of when there would often be an HST sat in the platform for much of the day. I believe they came down from Scotland on regular summer specials?

1445 to Scarborough cancelled at York due to late running. there appears to be a signal failure between Leeds and York.
