Sale Sharks 29...Harlequins 23

A well contested contest that saw Harlequins leading 13-9 at half-time, but Sale persevered well and were winners by six points. The result saw Sale and Harlequins swap league positions.

Sale are still undefeated in the league this season in their home league matches.

Excellent use of big screen replays from Nigel Owens for England's 2nd try. No wasting time waiting for the TMO to decide. He seen the replay and decided no offence was committed from the big screen.
To me (as a referee myself) this is how the TMO should be used. show the replays and let the referee decide on the decision.

Although originally rearranged for tonight, they left it open to being rearranged again for a spare Saturday if one came up. Fairer on both teams and others in the league if they're only having to play one match a week.

As Sale lost at the weekend, neither team are involved in Europe any more, so a free weekend is available.

Indeed, an unexpected home loss to Montpellier, 19-25, in the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Sale Sharks scored two tries to a solitary one by Monpellier in response, but Montpellier scored six penalties to only three by Sale Sharks.

Sale Sharks 29...Bath 17

Sale consolidated their league position today with this win in the rearranged-rearranged Premiership match, outscoring Bath by four tries to one. If the Sale goalkicking had been better, the win would have been even larger.

Sale are now in sixth place.

This weekend wasn't the rearranged rearranged match, that's next weekend. Today's fixture was always scheduled for this weekend.
The rearranged match is the version with Bath at home. They were going to play each other twice in 4 days, until they rearranged the mid week game for next week, so playing twice in 7 days now.

I very much enjoyed the Aviva Premiership highlights on ITV late last night. A much better standard of rugby than that Pro12 drivel.

Third and final Test

Australia 40....England 44

In a match where the lead changed many times, it was good to see a determination from England to win and they have obtained a 3-0 series whitewash of Australia.

Head coach Eddie Jones, a man of a wealth of international experience to call upon, is very much a realist and during an after-match interview, whilst pleased with the attacking side of the England game, said that the defence needed improvement and had only one good series match and two ordinary ones.

This to me is much bigger than the grand slam. White washing an Australia team full of world class players, six nations doesn't have a great deal of world class players at present,

I liked how he got some Aussie mates to help coach England whilst they were in Australia,

Agreed, a shame the newspapers have mostly been on about the kick-ball game, mostly ignoring (or putting it deep into the sports coverage, alongside the latest Ping-Pong game) the 3-0 whitewash of Australia (and Wales being whitewashed 3-0 by New Zealand ;)).

Newcastle Falcons 19....Sale Sharks 17

All the bright hopes of the pre-season availed naught as Sale lost their opening match, despite scoring two tries to one by Newcastle. Sale's goalkicking was woeful and they still had an easy penalty to score from in the final minute which would have won the match for them, but proceeded to miss it.

Perhaps a reality check is better now than later in the season.

The Pro12 kicked off with a dismal televised game between Ospreys and Zebre. No wonder it's not pulling in any crowds at the ground. At least you can turn the TV off or to a different channel.

It was probably the massive under achievement of the Dragons, along with the fact that they won less games than Zebre, that led to Lyn Jones's departure for pastures new.

I don't know what the underlying problem is at the Drags, but there's no doubt that there is one. The Pro12 is a rubbish league and they should be more competitive than they are.

I'll give the Blues v Edinburgh game a chance tonight. I hope it will be better than last night's televised dross!

This morning I took my daughter to her first rugby training. A third of the children were girls, which is great as the rfu promoting woman's rugby. What concerns me more is that once they reach 11 years old they can't play in mixed gender and there is little facility for girls youth rugby in my area so most of those girls will be lost unless things change or parents are prepared to drive 15 miles to nearest girls teams.
