I have purchased a rover ticket. I was informed the clerk couldn't find 26 - 30 so issued it as a 16 - 25 railcard discount. Will there be any questions asked on board trains or at stations?
Sounds nonsense. I'm sure we can find examples of TOCs fining customers for buying a ticket that doesn't match their railcard even it was the same fareThe 2 railcards are the exact same price and they offer the exact same discount. He said they both come under the young person category
they may be exactly the same price but you need to be very very careful in terms of the ticket "code",otherwise you will end up in a lot of trouble. The 2 railcards are the exact same price and they offer the exact same discount. He said they both come under the young person category
and again, it doesn't really matter if they are basically the same railcard offering the same discount.Sounds nonsense. I'm sure we can find examples of TOCs fining customers for buying a ticket that doesn't match their railcard even it was the same fare
I have proof of purchase. Sounds ludicrous staff could potentially be so close minded that they would fine someone for no outstanding balance. As a customer I see little I can do considering I was issued it by a member of staff who is meant to know his job and productsSounds nonsense. Perhaps worth contacting the TOCs customer service department. If they put it in writing that there is no problem that would be very useful in the event that you subsequently have any issues.I have proof of purchase. Thanks for the reply. With the ticket endorsed on the back stating it is an error with the system. Do you think I will have any problems? It should be remembered that when the 26-30 Railcard was first introduced it took a while to be appear in all the relevant systems, and the official guidance from RDG was to issue tickets using the 16-25 discount where a 26-30 was valid but couldn't be sold. I suspect that the seller here has had that fact in mind.

The endorsement is about the best possible protection you can get, but unfortunately it's never possible to rule out 100% of all potential bother. Thanks for the reply. With the ticket endorsed on the back stating it is an error with the system. Do you think I will have any problems?
Which rover ticket is it?Thanks for the reply. With the ticket endorsed on the back stating it is an error with the system. Do you think I will have any problems?
In principle, you can't use a 16-25 Railcard discounted ticket with a 26-30 Railcard. The reason for this is that there may be an intentional difference in the availability of the discount (as is, for example, the case on the Caledonian Sleeper or some of the ferries to get to the Isle of Wight).I have an update. I went to another station nearby. The lady told me it definitely isn't on her system. She has wrote on the back of my 7 day rover ticket that the railcard discount isn't on the system and that it is valid along with a number/code for the station. Will this be enough to satisfy any jobsworths?
Agree 100% some of them make up there own rules. In principle, you can't use a 16-25 Railcard discounted ticket with a 26-30 Railcard. However, with that endorsement on the back of the ticket you have clear evidence of permission to travel with an (otherwise) invalid ticket. Therefore I would not expect any issues, and certainly you can prove you are 100% in the right if any member of staff should take umbrage to it.
Although verbal permission is legally just as valid as written permission, I would always recommend getting any permission in writing so that its existence cannot be disputed.
All Line Rover 7 days Standard ClassWhich rover ticket was it?
I can see why you might be concerned with that. Fortunately you can add this page on NRE as proof that it is valid with a 26-30 Railcard. All Line Rover 7 days Standard Class

Have they been re-monikered as "Freedom of Britain" 7 day tickets? See BR Fares link below...All Line Rover 7 days Standard Class
I noticed this recently; perhaps there was an error during the change rendering some systems unable to print the 26-30 discount.Have they been re-monikered as "Freedom of Britain" 7 day tickets? See BR Fares link below...

Has this guidance ever been withdrawn? It should be remembered that when the 26-30 Railcard was first introduced it took a while to be appear in all the relevant systems, and the official guidance from RDG was to issue tickets using the 16-25 discount where a 26-30 was valid but couldn't be sold. Freedom of Britain was a fudge introduced in the early 2000s to make them easier to issue on APTIS. It enabled you to find them using the keyboard rather than having to swipe a barcode. Quite why they didn't just add "All Line Rover 7|14 day" as destinations I have no idea.Have they been re-monikered as "Freedom of Britain" 7 day tickets? See BR Fares link below...

It was originally a term in the railcard conditions, and displayed in the digital railcard itself, which it appears no longer to be. The 'guidance' may still be current however.Has this guidance ever been withdrawn?
