Station A and station B are both Routeing Points.

The RG gives maps AB+CD as permitted, despite them being 4x longer than the shortest route. Let's say the route is A > X > B.

However, using this combination in its entirety requires travelling on a train that only comes once a week, and it is thus near impossible to get NRE to provide an itinerary for it.

Question 1: If I choose to use map combination AB+CD, can I travel halfway along the map and 'stop short' (at station X, 60 miles away from Stations A or B) but still a station the RG permits travel via?

Question 2: As the NRG recommends that permitted routes are checked on NRE, does the fact that NRE cannot pull up a journey on this route affect its validity per the RG?

I hope my use of initials makes my post clear enough, but I'm somewhat disinclined to reveal the exact stations concerned after the whole RGL episode.

Yes that's absolutely permitted. You are allowed to stop short, and there's no obligation to check train times when using the NRG.

It is now just a recommendation to use NRE. Previously, when it was mandatory, I don't know what the answer to your question would have been - I'd have done it

Thought so, just thought I'd double check it was okay in this scenario considering I'll probably get a few funny looks (at best) when stopping short.

That's good. Previously the requirement to check NRE almost undermined the purpose of the RG in my view.
