Richmond - Willesden Junction works

The section of the Overground network between Richmond and Willesden Junction has been closed for the better part of 10 days or so. Does anyone know what work has been done to the line given that the District Line has remained in operation from Gunnersbury southwards? Just curious as to what work is so large that it requires such a long closure.

The closure was indeed for track and points renewal and replacement at Acton Wells Junction

I as told that there was a bridge that needed replacement as well at Acton Wells otherwise it couldn't support the cranes etc needed to do the track renewals, hence the longer than originally planned possession.

Replacing one Pandrol Clip always seems to take 10 days nowadays.

I hope they prepared that bit of line when the link between GWML and WCML (and MML?) is eventually electrified with 25kv ac Overhead.

Big track renewal (including a set that repeatedly fails), and a bridge strengthening job.

This poor line has been dug up a million times over the last few years - and still no major improvements in frequency (unlike via Clapham) - and none planned either.

Gunnersbury is still a disgrace, despite the Business Park being supposedly obligated to improve it - rather than the white elephant bus station.

However you had a route which had been starved of investment for decades and badly needed modernizing. Like anything else the longer you leave it the more it costs, and in the case of the railway that means long periods of the railway being shut.

Leaving hyperbole aside, assuming you mean Willesden - Richmond, I'm not sure it has been dug up that much. The line is pretty much at capacity anyway with the LU services.
