Given the duration of this RHTT diagram, I was curious as to how many driver swaps would be required if the whole route was actually run.

it is no different to the Bescot - Bescot via Euston, Maccelsfield & Bedford one round here. They tend to run the whole diagram so must need several drivers & sprayer operatives

Pedantic, but that isn't a diagram, it's a path.

I wouldn't be surprised if the crew changes on that path are done at Cardiff Central and Newport, which would mean 3 drivers. Not sure what the rules are on the RHTT operators shift length, but I suspect there's at least 2 of them.

How is route knowledge done for NR drivers, given the sheer percentage of the network the NMT frequently covers? Are they just conducted around most of the country?

they are employed by the FOC's not NR

The NMT and other infrastructure monitoring trains are operated (by Colas Rail) completely separately from the RHTT fleet.
