RHTT season is upon us. Colas Rail Class 56113 working 6Z60 (York Thrall Europa/BRML Quarters - Coleham LMD) with a set of RHTT wagons passing through Telford Central with a two tone this afternoon. This is the North Wales RHTT wagon set. (17/9/26)

Apologies if I’ve missed it, but with two wagons at Eastleigh, does this mean one of the South Western diagrams is loco hauled this year instead of solid MPV action?

Noticed that the rest of the 3J84 RHTT services out of Toton TMD have been hilighted as 'VAR' services, could this indicate at the possibility of these kicking up over the next week, or is this just nothing?

Wishful thinking, I'm afraid - overnight freight schedules are often VAR'd due to engineering work,
even of the trains in question are not booked to run as it's an automatic process.


I've seen nothing to suggest that any of the RHTT diagrams will be starting significantly earlier
than they did last year, which was October 2nd in the case of the train you are referring to.

Still think it's interesting that GBRf are using the 99s, I would've thought they'd swap out the 99s onto freight instead of 66s and take the sheds to RHTT (Like what they've done with the 60s)

As far as I'm aware, the issue is that there aren't enough drivers trained up on them to enable four long distance
freight services to go over to 99-haulage on a daily basis right now, but it's pretty straightforward to quickly train
up a few drivers at Inverness where four 99s can be employed on two simple 'out and back' RHTT diagrams.

Ah ok, makes sense, will that be more likely next year where there is more time to train up drivers on the routes on the 99s then?

Maybe, but by then, GBRf will have 'handed back' 20 66s, so they will still be struggling for RHTT locos!
