Rezoning of Croydon Stations

I've noticed there's a campaign to re-zone East and West Croydon stations from zone 5 to 4, or to make them dual zone 4/5.

The campaign's now getting a fair bit of coverage in the area, and just wondered if people think it has much chance of success.

I don't think this makes that much sense. These people forget that central London (Zone 1) is oval shaped.

If everyone was rezoned one zone further in, prices wouldn't drop!

On a similar note, but a case of re-zoning, Steve Reed, Labour MP for Croydon North, has launched a campaign to have East and West Croydon reallocated to zone 4, arguing that stations such as Hounslow Central and Chigwell are further from Trafalgar Square than Chigwell, yet are in zone 4, thus Croydon commuters are being ripped off by paying more to travel shorter distances.

But that is exactly what maniacmartin is saying. The zones are not perfect circles.

Distance is not the only consideration. It can equally be argued that perhaps Hounslow Central should be rezoned into Zone 5 using his logic.

And Chigwell is a special case because TfL stretched zone 4 to include the whole Hainault loop.
