Reservation labels

You never know. It might be considered a nice easy case compared to gathering evidence for a persistent fare evader!!

But train companies are not in business to prosecute people - they are in business to transport them from A to B on payment of the appropriate fare. They don't go out of their way to find people to prosecute (contrary to the opinions of some here).

En route to an away football match I boarded, found my correct seat and found myself sitting amongst at least a dozen or so opposition supporters. Train was full so I wasn't moving anywhere but they were questioning whether it was my seat and one even asked why the train company would have given me a seat mixed in with their lot!

I see the practicality of removing an unused reservation so as to free up the seat, however, the problem comes in it there is more then one reservation on the label and that same is reserved by another passenger down-route again for another section of the train's journey.

I'm fairly positive though that anyone one here would check for such things before removing a label though.

I invariably carry a pen. What say I cross out 'my' reservation? That way it's obvious that the reservation is no longer valid, and nobody need get in any hassle for removing tickets.

I see the logic behind that. However, could that deemed as interfering with a reservation label or defacing it and therefore land you in a similar position as if you had removed the label.

My view is that I'd rather not get involved in the removal of reservation labels at all. If the guard wants to do it, then fine, it's their train!
