Remaining semaphore signal boxes

I have looked at Streetview for Eglinton St in Portrush, which is dated July 2023, and there appear to be somersault signals at the platform end. A look through the most recent Journals of the Irish Railway Record Society does not appear to mention any work there.

Streetview of the R448 (August 2022) at Waterford also shows semaphores out at Waterford West.

Main line - I can't think of any right now - but I suggest /somewhere/ on NR there must surely be a box with only colour light running signals but with disc shunting signals ????

My box is three aspect colour lights for all running signals with manual pull disc shunts.

You know, I still can't think of any. When I do it'll be blindingly obvious.

Almost all of my travel is under large power box / ROC control areas, don' make that many trips where local boxes exist. I did do a few of those ooop norff last month - but I wasn't looking out for this combination of signals at the time.

Ahh yes it does still have one - the starter to Park South with Park South’s inner distant underneath.

Carnforth certainly used to be two fixed arms, presumably at one point reading over the Midland and Furness routes from the platform. Checking now it’s just one.

Yes Caverswall has some shunt discs.

Thanks, that makes sense. I assume two originally working signals were fixed then one removed.

As an aside I used to like seeing the semaphores at Carnforth East when passing by along the A6. As a child I found them very impressive looking.

There is a signalpost telephone on Rufford signal 12. It's right outside the signal box. And the signaller is required to do a token exchange with the driver.

That phone only went off once in anger in my time there, much to my initial confusion. It was a regular passenger asking about a delayed train, he thought I wasn't in because the door and windows were shut and the lights were off as it was both much too bright and much too cold.

Back on topic, Castleton East has two semaphore main aspect signals, one (currently out of use) for exiting the South Sidings and another for exiting the Up and Down Through sidings.

Midge Hall's Up direction signal is a semaphore.

Back in the 1970's used to go sailing in the estuary - fond memories of the place and especially the box which had friendly signalmen and a chance to "have a go" - the up Whitland milk - 52 hauled at that.......(OT indulgence)

Stirling North has a couple of discs, but all the running signals are colour light. Dunblane might be the same, although I'm not sure. Stirling Middle is all colour light and GPL, but apart from the Kincardine line they are all operated from the frame. Points are all motor/clamp lock, but again, apart from the Kincardine line are operated from the frame, ASAIK.

I believe Dunblane has all its points motorised and the discs replaced with position lights. The running shunts and limit of shunt on the down were also removed.

Nice photo....with some interesting hybrid signalling structures. The home signals in the foreground are fairly recent replacements using a Railtrack/Network Rail style bracket post with tubular steel dolls....while the section signals in the background consist of Southern Railway-manufactured LSWR-designed lattice post dolls and finials mounted on a BR Southern Region-designed steel half-portal bracket gantry of the type used in major colour light signalling schemes in the 1950s-1970s.
