The introduction (from the MD) in Chiltern Railway's new summer timetable includes the rather intriguing line:

Chiltern Railway timetable said:
Train improvements
During this timetable period, you’ll start to see the first of our refurbished Mainline trains come into service. Over the next year, we will be making improvements to all of our existing Clubman trains to give them an interior similar to our popular silver trains.

This is the first I've heard of any possible work. Whilst it is obvious something is going to happen, does anyone have any more details of just what is planned and when it will start? I did a bit of digging on here but all I can find is this post of Cherry_Picker's here. Any more concrete info would be gratefully received :)

Cheers

They were only refurbished about five years ago, seems a bit soon to refurbish them again - unless something a bit more drastic is happening rather than just new seat covers etc.

could be a refurb to give them a whole new interior similar to the MK3s?

Franchise agreement requires one every 6 years

Last time they were refurbished they didn't really change much, the seat coverings changed but i personally think they made them slightly worse. With them changing all of the 168s into 'silver' sets, i can't see them matching up to the MK3s much as they will still be very similar inside bar the colours. May put some curtains in but that's about it.

How are they going to differentiate between loco-hauled and DMU diagrams after this then?

Either the 168s won't be referred to as "Silver Trains" in the actual timetable still, or the LHCS service will simply be shown as having "Business Zone Available".

Well I think we can assume maroon grab rails and grey moquette. As for the livery, the rumour is a hybrid between existing blue/white and mainline silver.

No official info released to staff (yet) though.
