Refurb XC MK3's

Does anyone know what the interior of the XC Mk3's is likely to look like and boast? Will it look like NXEC's Refurbished MK3's, and have plugs at each table, or will they be going for a more Voyager Design??

I understand they are going for a Voyager style interior. Whether this extends to ensuring about 20% of the seats have no window view I'm not sure.

I heard that instead of fitting Voyager seats, they're gonna fit mallard seats used on NXEC trains instead! So it would probably look a bit like NXEC internally!

I would imagine they would have Mallard seats from the perspective that they will be readily available to Wabtec, and it would be cheap for Wabtec to add on to the order they placed for NXEC's refurb. How easy would it be to get a hold of Voyager seats though I dont know!

And also, Im sure Voyager seats are narrower, due to their narrower body profiles, so it would make the aisles too wide! I think getting Voyager seats would be somewhat difficult as maybe they are patent to Virgin!

What if CrossCountry need some seats due to various reasons...

As long as they don't go the way fGW did then I don't mind what seats they use!

There is nothing on the Voyager design patented to Virgin Rail Group, it's an urban myth!

I've put that one in the XC suggestion box - if those seats are fitted, they would be able to get the trolley through even if there are standees and luggage in the way.

Was in Wabtec yesterday and staff said it will be a 'mallardised' interior with a few minor alterations. There is also to be one small buffet counter type thing per train in the first class vehicles (similar to the TSOB vehicles converted for 'one').

The wiring on the couplers are different too, so 220/221s can't work in multi with 222s apart from coupling to each other in emergencies with one unit pushing or pulling the other. It's in the same fashion that 165/166/168s can't work in multi with 142/143/144/150/153/155/156/158/159/170s due to wiring, despite having the same coupler. If the conversion of 165/166/168 couplers to work in multi with the others is anything to go by, I imagine it will only take half a day to do the small conversion work necessary.

It goes far deeper than that. They are not identical.

Essentially, they have the same power unit: One Cummins QSK9R 560kW/750hp per car, with 8 Alstom Onix 800 traction motors per 4 car voyager/meridian unit. They have the same doors, same body construction, same bogies, same brakes, total horsepower (3000) and top speed (125mph).

But, the lengths are different, different weight, etc, so they are basically technically the same, but aesthetically and cosmetically different.

essentially, however, they are very similar.

And it's interesting you say about the couplers, Alex, the Tyne & Wear metro trains have BSI couplers identical to sprinters too

I heard that XC HST's will have 170 turbostar seats (the red ones) from referbished 170's. They will be 6/7 couches not totally sure about that.

There will be no buffet car

There will be:
A dedicated trolley space so if train is busy in can act as a shop sort off.
Luggage racks
Additonal luggage space in one power car
Computer sockets
New curtains in 1st class
New table lamps

Somebody also mentioned Passengers infomations screens but i'm not too sure

Well to me it looks like a mallard style refurb with XC red seats, new xc carpet (ie on the 170) and the NXEC 1st class seats in XC coverings. Looks fantasic!

Anybody else notice the fact that one toilet and luggage rack at each end of a TSO has been removed and replaced by seats?

Will XC HST's be worse than the FGW's ones. I actually like the new FGW HST's but nobody else seems to.

Alex S - next to no tables you say, thats going to cause problems must be one of those new modern ideas. "buffet cars are used much so tables are not either". i don't know who comes up with these idea's. They must have the same internal layout as the FGW sets then if there using the "put as many seats in as you can and doesn't matter about anything else".

Me thinks there will be problems when they come into service.
