Well, that worked out well.

I managed to completely misread the timetable so missed the 387s (assuming that they ran to the diagram given in the relevant thread barring the two cancelled journeys, was aiming for 1W52) by a good five minutes while sitting at the airport being idle but also charging my phone. Thank goodness this happened to new units rather than ones that were due to retire.

Got 319004 though, plus a few more winning 377s and 450s in the process.

Hi Techniquest, a great time was had knocking those units of the list, but it does mean that up until recently I have been pathetic in logging what I have ridden on.

Thanks to the rest of you guys also. I have been trying to think what my first trip of 2015 might be and having read your posts on the 442's I thought I would check what I required to find out I only have 1 logged for haulage (442404)!!!

So guess where I am planning on going in the new year.

The 442s are getting a little tedious. Only managed to get four on Tuesday so still three to go, but won't be around London for a while now.

However I did manage to score my last two Tramlink units, 2546 and 2555, quite surprisingly on Tuesday after sacrificing the chance for a ride on 387105/7 (I think). I did though manage a trip on 387108/110 earlier that day.

A lot of to-ing and fro-ing in central London I see. Did you not get bored?

I finally managed a bugger of a unit today, 323241, last on my list of LM 323s, so very happy.

Oh and 121020 (which was mainly the reason for going up to Chiltern land to try and get the bubble) :)

While they were dropping as required units it was ok. Things slowed down in the afternoon but you got to do what you got to do!

Personally, I'd be heading to the north side of London, there's far more interesting EMUs on the Great Northern side! 313s, 317s, 321s and even 365s (not bad in the motor coaches at least!) available and far more noise available than on a 442! Plus there's the advantage of it being on AC power rather than during the duller buzz of DC!

You've all been very busy it seems lately! Below is my full list of victories following my epic trip north last weekend:

13th December 2014

350255 (already mentioned I believe last week, if not I have now!)

LU Victoria line:

11031
11032

14th December 2014

314207
314209
314210
314212 (stay tuned during the next few days for more of the trip report, which will explain all with the 314s but I was most satisfied with the progress made!)

318251
318257
318264

320304
320317
320320

334036

Shack Attacks (thanks 43167!): Dalreoch, Dumbarton East, Kilpatrick, Bowling, Garscadden, Jordanshill, Scotstunhill, Bearsden, Cambuslang, Uddingston, Bellshill, Barrhead, Bishopston, Croftfoot, Kings Park

15th December 2014

314211
314216 (again, stay tuned for the trip report to find out how I had good luck, but then equally some bad luck! Only need 314213 now! :D)

318267 (one need one more 318 now! :D)

320305 (last SR passenger train to see! :D)

334029
334033 (still way too many of these to get for my liking!)

380001
380003
380005
380010
380019
380020
380101

Shack Attacks: Shawlands, Pollokshields West, Pollokshaws East, Maxwell Park, Langside, Lochwinnoch, Dalry, Inverkip, Langbank, Cartsdyke, Woodhall, Bogston, Greenock Central, Fort Matilda, Greenock West, IBM, Whinhill, Branchton, Drumfrocher, Dalmarnock, Carmyle, Mount Vernon

16th December 2014

313027 (11 GN 313s to go, finally got one after a long fester in the cold!)

365520

377401
377505
377508
377517

No Shack Attacks today, and once again I'll explain what happened in the trip report! No more trips due now until 4th January 2015 when I plan to kick off the new year in style! <D

Looks like you got a lot there Techniquest!

What are you doing on the 4th of Jan? I might get out at the very start of the year and hopefully out around the 8th for my birthday!

Got my first SWT 159 on the list: 159012 on the 1427 Trowbridge to Bristol Temple Meads on Thursday.

I still have a LOT to do down south!

And how did you find the seats?

---

Today's Brighton-Bedford 'Thameslink' trip managed to score me:

EMT:
43060; 43061 (6 down, 18 to get),
222020 & 222021 (10 down, 17 to get)

(Why do I have a feeling of a pending East Midlands Day Ranger next year to go up and down the Midland Line from Leicester northbound to score some EMT HST & 222s?)

Thameslink:
319453; 377207; 377212; 377518 (Both 207 & 212 are in FCC Purple which seems a bit odd compared to the rest of the 377/2s which are in the ex-southern colours)

Southern:
171724; 171726 (2 very busy trains, couldn't Southern find anymore 171s to double them up, I think it left Brighton completely full, even the '1st' class section, but 2 more 171s ticked off, 10 more to get (including both 7s & 8s)

377113; 377161; 377421; 377424; 442404; 442424 (Good news Gatwick Express branded services were running at regular 15 minute intervals today, bad news is that they were all singles, but 2 more crossed off, so only 17 left to get)

SWT: 450074 (still waiting for 158882 or 885 to show up on the Romsey rocket)

Hopefully tomorrow I can add some FGW 180s to my list, as I'm going 180 hunting.

22nd December

Having spent the day in the Thames Valley with a slightly dodgy Thames Branches ranger (priced below the weekday min fare for a network railcard) with the main aim of sorting myself out for some 180 hunting:

SWT (Reading to Wokingham returns is good to waste an hour):
450017; 450029; 450080; 458006

FGW:
43022; 43124; 43183 (3 HSTs, all 3 were leading with the rear 43 being dud)
165105; 165110; 165121; 165127
166204; 166213; 166214
180102; 180103; 180106 & 180108 (All FGW 180s completed) :)

Other than my first Metrolink journey of the day on 3091 from Shudehill to Monsall all journeys were to and from Cornbrook.

First time sightings: 3086 3091 3092
New for haulage: 3024/29/51/63/64/75/85/88/89/91
I now need only 11 of the 92 trams to ride. These are 3013/38/41/47/48/49/61/62/86/90/92.

Four 57/3s now needed - 301 / 306 / 307 / 312.

Hopefully some of the 24(!) 313s rode today are winners. Most were between Moorgate & Essex Road, good station pair, easy enough to cross over to the other platform with around 4 minutes each end to grab numbers & cross over, with the benefit of being able to get a good 2 hours worth of units before they start coming back in.

Oh? What happened there?!

Kite159: Interesting, I had not considered Moorgate to Essex Road, I usually do Finsbury Park to Harringay on my 313 trips. I look forward to hearing details of your trip as it could be better than my choice!

Quite a good pick, no stairs to worry about, nor gateline staff to question you when making a quick connection from one train to another. If you can get the position correct it's a simple cross to the other platform. Only works on weekdays with the 10 minute frequency with double units. Although don't do it if you like natural daylight as it's within the tunnel (so 3rd rail 313 action)

Annoyingly I could have scored required 158885 yesterday as it was the leading unit with a 159 behind, however I couldn't as it left Basingstoke 2 minutes before the 10:00 kick-in of my network railcard (and would have formed a Salisbury stopper which doesn't stop at Clapham), quite a few 158s making trips to Waterloo yesterday.

Harsh regarding the 158!

As for the 313 cranking, I thought they were both underground, and to be fair I've spent WAY too much time underground in Liverpool (darn, that's something I forgot about! I'll explain in my trip report thread shortly...) for 507s and 508s, so a couple of hours between Moorgate and Essex Road will be a walk in the park!

Much better than Finsbury Park to Harringay then, as you've got the gateline at the former to interact with. Last time I was down that way though on a weekday (16th December, full details in my trip report eventually!), it was all single 313s but to be fair this was around 1145 in the morning.
