I get the train to and from Manchester most days and there is a strange quirk of driving that I've noticed. On leaving Manchester towards Warrington, normally on the TP Express, the routine tends to be a fairly slow trundle through Deansgate and on past Castlefield. When it gets towards Manchester United, the driver normally floors it and off we go.
However, quite often, just after accelerating hard, the driver jams the brakes on and its a crawl past Old Trafford to the container depot and then full bore.
Does anyone know what this is about? It happens reasonably often.
