'Netiquette' can bollocks.

I will be honest. I think that when people repeatedly correct or complain about the grammar and/or spelling in a post, I find it quite condescending and even ignorant in certain circumstances. The only exceptions are if the post is completely unreadable or the poster has actually asked for help.

You simply don't know about the person who is writing the post, they could well have a disability that prevent them from writing correctly with ease. After all this should be a fairly informal writing environment, it is not a literacy examination.

I regularly post on an international forum, with a large amount of posters who do not have English as their first language. Additionally, there are posters who use the grammar, spelling and phrases of American English and those who use British English. As long as the post is understandable, no one complains or criticises.

I also post on a foreign language forum and I appreciate that people do not flame me for making a few errors. You see the forum posting environment from a different angle, since it is more difficult to write a correct post. I understand the feelings of posters who have problems on here writing in a fluent manner. Gentle tips are fine, but beyond that it isn't nice.

I hope that MattE2010 does not see this posting, as the use of "train station" is said to cause him intense annoyance.....with medical overtones.:roll:

However, if you type the name of a station into a search engine, one entry with a blue roundel will always state " X " train station on that particular entry.

I was very annoyed at the Supermarket today when I saw that a dolmio pasta pouch for one was only 2p cheaper than a pouch for two even though it's half the size.

It's annoying enough being single without supermarkets adding insult to injury by making us pay vastly more for food as well

And pepole who refuse to stand to one side on escalators, yes I know your train doesn't leave for another 15mins but mine goes in 1min 30secs and being held up at the escalators on Fairfeild St trying to get to platform 14 is a dealbreaker.

That and idiots on G4S barriers...

Hey! Complaining about being single is (supposed to be?) my job!

Not all supermarket things are bad though. I was at ASDA shortly before returning to Bath last month and saw an interesting offer. One bottle of 2L Fanta was £1.78, which is perfectly normal price-wise; two were going for £1.50! Now, I know they sometimes do that kind of thing when you buy a large quantity of something, e.g. a greengrocer might say "plums 22p each or six for £1" [how much are plums anyway?], but one a basis of buying only two? The example above works out at roughly 4 for the price of 3; my example is roughly 12 for the price of 5!

Back on topic, allow me to provide another. Can I suggest the notorious point of traffic lights at roundabouts? Although sometimes helpful, e.g. (from a local perspective) the junction of the A4 with the Bristol Ring Road, such things are far too commonplace! Most of the time, they add to the delays!

Oh, and another one. People who don't know the difference between "atheist" and "agnostic" [besides one being a noun and the other being an adjective]. (Thank you Paul for reminding me.) For anyone who wonders why, a friend of mine is agnostic, and I am an atheist, yet too many people think we're the same in that sense!

Really? Well, according to some Christians, God doesn't believe in Atheists either, strill doesn't stop Him/ Christians talking about us!

It does make my blood boil, I hate it more literally than I hate the use of swearing etc, and, in an overall sense, more than I hate the Labour Party or Celtic.

People who give abuse to staff, when they are just doing their job correctly. Ever seen the program Airline, when they shout and scream after missing a flight when it was THEIR fault.

When I missed a flight, I was polite, apologetic and friendly and the agent waived some of the fee for a transfer...

The barrier staff are irritating when I'm going from Lectures at UMIST to home....

The students I count as irritating include those who moan that lectures are on the former UMIST campus and not 'at uni', those who cock about, those who have more money than me due to very generous parents, and when any of these come to me asking for help because they don't understand the lecture and start off with "You're clever you'll know the awnser to this." I'm usually tempted to say, "No I just pay attention!"

Oh, and anyone who says the're going to university for 'the experience' and will contribute the fourth root of the number of subsets of a set with no content or less to this country, compared to those on professional training courses registered and accredited by UKEC bodies that will work in a vain attempt to better the lives of people in this country and receive no thanks for doing so.

Well put Students tend to annoy me too, but it's often the party culture that does it. Agreeing with your point about students who ask for help because "[we are] clever" is also a big irritation; if you are not sufficiently intelligent for something that is required, why are you at University in the first place? I lost count* of the number of people in my first year at Bath Spa who asked me help them with something because I am "clever", especially when that something involved arithmetic! I don't mind helping, but not just for the sake of it! Mind you, my family are worse for this; as a general rule of thumb, they ask for help when something besides me in very close proximity (e.g. a timetable) can give an answer, and don't ask when such a thing is not within easy reach! Where's the logic in that?

Students get right on my proverbials too, I know a case of tarring with the same brush, most are decent enough. It's just that there's too many being annoying to comfortably say that it's a absolute minority.

My partner is a student, just finishing off Uni. She lives with 3 others, in an area that is swamped with student flats and houses, mingled amongst the "ordinary" residents. Every single night is party night in the houses around her. Last night involved a constant barrage of screaming, shouting and singing from about 8pm to 5am. The smoke alarm kept constantly sounding. Music blared.

The morning after "student nights", you are guaranteed to walk amongst puddles of vomit and kebabs strewn across the street like Saving Private Ryan re-enacted with doner meat.

I spent some time hanging around the Uni "scene" when my friends were studying, and it's frightening to see the calibre of some students. Some should never have been allowed out of Secondary School. For those types, it's all about the "experience", i.e. getting out from under Mum's eye and ****ing it up constantly. Yet there was an air of superiority, that they were Graduates and thus going to be seriously important at some point, earning 35k starting wage.

Anyone who has the mindset of "Don't worry, you're supposed to fail First Year, it's all about bedding you into the experience" wouldn't last five minutes in the workplace.

OK, I'm on a professionaly accredited course and won't be starting on that...

It ranges between 19 and 28k for me, unless I work for places that I can't say who, then it could be anything from 12k (accommodation and food included) up to 70k...

To get into the 30s you need two languages and a masters or doctoral degree...

The best one I've seen that I can directly apply for and advertise is £34k starting salary, but the only reason I have a chance of getting on that is because of some of my previous work and experience, and having very strong A levels

And yes that does work out as a better wage than some HGV Class 2 and Class 1 jobs I've seen going, even some Class 1 HAIB jobs I've seen at under 19k

Said whilst putting on my "Grumpy Old Man" hat on.......

It is the younger version of these (11 to 16 years old) to whom I refer, who decide to emulate Genghis Khan and the Mongol Hordes at the end of the school day, when using normal service buses rather than school buses, that make life hell for any passenger unlucky to be on these buses when they arrive near the schools in mid-afternoon.
