Another thing that gets to me - Smart Boards in schools. Great idea but so irritating to use. Bring back a blackboard and chalk?

Flourescent lights. They give me migraines! 
And it's worse when I can't use glasses because they're broken and I can't get a repeat prescription because it's out of date (i.e. as is true now)...

Ditto on 'interactive white boards' they should be spending money on education, not shinny things, oh how teachers like shinny things!
PS: I use 3 or 4 different operating systems on a daily basis, it's not that I'm not flexible, I just don't like macs.
I also don't like any version of windows past NT5 it just looks too maccey!

We don't all love shiny things; just the vast majority. By which I mean everyone that didn't have it tough through school and want to be a teacher because it looked fun as opposed to wanting to improve things and to make sure that one's own experience isn't inflicted on others!
And with that in mind, people who assume that everyone has/had things as easy as they do/did. We are all guilty of it sometimes, but I mean people that are always like it!

Responses in a fast moving thread getting buried on a previous page.
Don't get me wrong on this, they're a fantastic tool to have at your disposal in the classroom. I just think that at times, the application lets them down - they have a nasty habit of coming out of alignment in the middle of the day. This means that when you're writing on the board, it's squashing your writing up or stretching it out.

Personally (having taught rooms of moody 13 - 18 year olds myself) a projector is a nice thing to have, when teaching things that require images, but I was always most comfortable with pen and board or chalk and board. I really don't see the point in interactive white boards though, theres just no point in them as far as I can see, all it means is you can save what you've written... but what good is that when you only teach somthing one or twice a year?

I prefer the whiteboard. Much nicer on the ears and it's easier to get coloured pens to work on it. Two colours helped me learn Pythagoras in 3D

You can have different coloured chalk, and you should see how I taught chemistry (A Level) to someone using a camera phone and MSN messenger... heh
