Seems quite popular getting stuck then!

Anyone else had a 'looped' dream too? I've heard some people used to have one as a kid and I suffered from it as a kid but in the 24 years I've only had one.

I woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs to the kitchen and mum was cooking (in the morning!?) and I stood at the entrance watching her pull out a burnt pizza. Then I woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs and stood at the entrance to see the oven was on fire!! (only a very small flame though) Then I woke up...

Same thing happened just the scene in the kitchen was a different scenario each time and went on for another 3 or 4 round trips until I did actually wake up, go downstairs to the kitchen and stayed awake from then on.

Some people of course refer to the Matrix too, is real life a dream and a dream your life? What do you believe? I don't think at all that a dream is real life, if only for the fact there are various scenes and you jump all over the place, but most of what you dream is related to the real life and 9 times out of 10 is related to what you are thinking about.

I do find it fascinating that our brains can draw up a world, and even can even detail the house I used to live in 10 years ago, that I can hardly describe as I forget where most of the bits were but in the dream it's all there and I remember it then. It's also fascinating how we can move around in this other world too. Hell I can even drive a car (had a lot of those too) doing the gears and everything, yet I don't drive and when I did have a do in mums old Metro (off the public roads) I couldn't even get the clutch right!

I also get a student dream - I am in my final year of University, I haven't been to any classes at all and I have three essays to do in a week!

I half expect that although a nightmare, this could well be reality for some students.

Have to say, I seem to recall having similar dreams that I had a load of work to do in a given time then waking up, thinking about it, and realising I have less to do than the dream made me think

Yes, I have had numerous dreams where I have dreamed I have woken up from some nightmare situation, and breathed a sigh of relief only to be faced with the same situation while dreaming that I am awake :-?

When I do eventually wake up, it takes me a few minutes to believe that I am really awake.

I had an interesting event in a dream last night, although I cant remember the context, but I was in a conversation with someone about the 1971 Cup Final. They said Man U won it and I knew that was wrong, but try as I might in my dream I could not remember anything about the match or the teams.

I kept thinking and thinking because in my dream I was convinced I knew the right answer, and then woke up and it was a matter of seconds before I remembered it was Arsenal who beat Liverpool that year.

My theory is, that while part of the brain is connected during sleep, the bits that store useless statistics are not, but as soon as I woke up that bit connected again very quickly.

Either that, or I am going completely mad.

My Wife woke up with a start this morning and asked if the track in Russia was wider than China. She then told me she had a dream about the War and that we were trying to escape to Russia by train. She said the train was 'lost' and that when we got to the border an announcement was made saying that the train could go no further as the track was wider in Russia and that there was no staff at the border station and where we got 'captured'....at that point she woke up! lol

I must add my Wife has no interest in Railways what so ever!

I get a few random rail dreams. I just remembered one I had of a Valenta farewell HST tour that was in BR blue, except the tour was on the east coast of the USA, and they even had their own basic version of the Dawlish sea wall!

Another one was on a VSOE set, I think it was about 9 cars long, but it wasn't hauled by a loco, as it was a Thumper set! That looked mighty strange....

Last one I remember, was being at Bristol TM (complete with a Class 165 in the station too) and we got on the Torbay Express. The difference was the geography was different, the route to Box Tunnel was to the south west, and the route to Bedminster was to London. We got to Box Tunnel in a very short time and the train disappeared and we were standing on the tracks in front of the tunnel. Someone I was with said this happens as there is no track in the tunnel and was out of gauge anyway.
We had to walk through the tunnel, which was only around 5ft high and made of red brick, and meet the train the other side. The tunnel wasn't straight and had loads of 90 degree turns in it, and once we got to the other side we realised it took so long to walk through that the train had already left! I remember being rather ****ed off at this...and then I woke up...:s

Anyone else get the odd random rail dream? I see Anon Mouse's wife does!

Anyone recognise the date 9 June 2006 here?

If you do, it's probably because you have an interest in LUL. That was the day Shoreditch (which I never visited ) closed.

That night, I had a dream of a Shoreditch station which was vastly improved in comparison to its (then) real-life counterpart. It looked more like Canada Water than Shoreditch. I walked down onto the platform, when suddenly a girl stopped me - and told me I had made her pregnant.

Whoops.

I get these a lot, like you need to run away or leave somewhere but everyone is being so slow at leaving. You do end up waking up by the time they are just leaving.

I'm always falling of telephone poles, these are really high ones aswell, I was told in real life if I dont wake up before I hit the ground then I will die in real life, lol

I always have dreams of me running away from murderers and for some reason i cant run fast, its like am in slow motion and the more and more i try to run fast the slower i got. its terrifying as the murderer starts catching up. always wake up before he does tho.

I had a weird couple of dreams last night.

The first one, The Wife and I were on a big ship, I'm sure it was a freight ship like a tanker or something and we saw another small ship pass infront of us and I insisted I wanted to be on it until it hit some very rough water which made it capsize but I assured my Wife that as we were on a big ship we would not capsize. Our Ship hit some rough water like a dart and I woke up.

The second one I was at Manchester Piccadilly and 03179 was hauling a sleeper train and a guy dressed like a giant mouse was harrasing the driver (in 1980's uniform) who looked furious and glared at me as he walked away and the mouse started climbing all over the loco. I then passed from the opposite platform on a class 37 hauled sleeper.

very weird indeed

Ive noticed that a lot of members have transport related dreams, all I can say is you lot must have NO life, I rarely have any dreams about trains and the like. For some reason lately I've been having dreams about going absolutely angry in public and when I mean angry I mean hopping boiling raging mad and then lashing out on someone and then having to deal with the consequences.

Have to say, I seem to recall having similar dreams that I had a load of work to do in a given time then waking up, thinking about it, and realising I have less to do than the dream made me think

Ive had that before.

Everyone has had the tripping over, and your legs/arms/whatever fly out to stop you falling, in bed.

One dream I used to have when I was young (probably the one i can remember best) I was at my grandmas house, with my mum, carrying a plastic lunchbox. However there was a dinosaur coming down the street, and I somehow ended up as jelly in this lunchbox, but my mum and grandma didnt pick me up....

I can remember havign a repeating dream, but not the specifics of it, just that it always seemed to come out slightly different.

Over the past year ive had a fair few dreams about a girl (nothing nasty) she moved away a few years ago, (2 hours by car, 3.5 by train) and either She would have moved back, or I would be running to her. Unfortunately I found out about some VERY bad things happening to her (im 18now, shes 17. She was younger when it happened..... stuff that shouldnt happen to somone of that age, or any woman.) And I dreamed it was happening to her, but there was nothing I could do ( I wasnt actually there when it happened in reality, and i didnt ask for how it came about) Really scared me, Ive had some more stuff similar happening since we had a massive fall out, like of it happening again to her, I dont want her to have any more stuff happen....

There was one a few weeks ago, It was a good dream. However i cant remember it much, Like 30 seconds after waking up I had forgot most of it. It may have involved some transport though.

On a random note, I am rather scared that i have realised I feel happiest on trains, and generally the older the better. Or maybe just not a 156/3 I think I actually Hate them more than pacers (probably the emt refreshing, they should have done a real refurbishment, I currently rate 150's and 158's better than 156's) The most fun part of my london trip was catching the HST down there. And the 158 full of drunk singing people on the way home from nottingham (and rather absent of conductors)

I don't see anything unusual about having transport related dreams, as a large proportion of forum members are railway enthusiasts.

Anyway one of the most bizarre transport related dreams I had was standing on Lancaster station and seeing some Metropolitan line A stock charge though the centre road at high speed.

Another one was getting on a Tyne & Wear Metro train - at Northallerton !

I had another weird dream last night, this time involving the Tyne & Wear Metro.

I got the Metro to Byker and got a lift from the platforms which ran horizontally through the supermarket. I then walked out into the street and got a lift without any guard rails right the way up a very building that was being demolished, I went so high up there was no floor to get out on so I had to go all the way back down, makes no sense at all and it was very weird!

I also feel at my happiest when I'm on old trains your not on your own their, I love settling down in a nice springy MK1 seat in a compartment on some preserved railway.

In the past I have had some truly surreal dreams.

A few months ago I dreamt that I was in a department store in the lingerie section (don't ask why!) and even though it was 3am it was broad daylight outside. I looked down and realised I was stark naked. I then walked out of the department store and saw a friend waiting for me at the top, so I walked towards him and up a hill, which seemed to get progressively steeper until it was almost vertical. I then rolled down the hill and saw someone waiting for me at the bottom (from the perspective of a CCTV camera) who looked almost exactly like me. I turned towards the department store entrance only to realise it had turned into a tube station. My memory is a bit hazy at this point but I remember running through the station concourse with him to the Jubilee line platforms, but we don't catch a train. Instead, we run back through the ticket barriers (which literally fall to the floor as we walk through them). The dream then cuts to someone sleeping in a bed making noises that sound like a train horn while someone unseen narrates with a David Attenborough type voice. Finally, the camera then jumps to a 12 inch gauge model of a 47 lying in a bed making train noises.

I was so disturbed when I woke up that I texted the girl whom I went out for a meal the previous night with one of my housemates (bear in mind that I fancied this girl at the time)asking whether she put some lsd tablets in my drink when I wasn't looking. I'm not gonna repeat her response here!

When I was 13 I had a marginally less surreal dream. I dreamt that I was going on a cross country run with my PE class in the rain through a succession of muddy fields and woodlands. I end up leading the pack and enter this wooden chalet before anyone else catches up with me. I then walk outside onto the top of a hill, and standing there is a playpark, with a NR liveried HST powercar as its centrepiece.

I have railway related dreams on a regular basis, but mine are usually so incorrect that I wake up thinking, 'this cant be right' which is a shame because apart from the fictitious livery status of the dream, they are quite decent compared with falling off an office block roof (see earlier in the thread).

I was a steward on an unusual railtour in one dream, but everything went wrong as I walked up and down the train. We seemed to have left people behind, we didnt stop at stations we should have and stopped at ones nobody recognised as being on the booked route. I remember waking up in a big sweat then realising it was not real, and breathing a big sigh of relief.

The strange thing is that I have not been on a railtour for about 15 years.
