Railway Stations Without Tracks!

G'day everyone,

Essentially the idea for this thread is stations that have survived after the tracks have been torn up.

To kick things off my suggestion is Coxbench in Derbyshire which is just a few minutes drive from where I grew up. The station was on the route from Little Eaton to Ripley which closed to passengers in the 1930's and finally had it's track lifted three or four years a go. Both the station and platform!! still exist along with the station masters house.

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received!

How about the (real) GWR station in Devon (Brixham? Kingswear?) that never had tracks? Only ever saw boats.

• Manchester Mayfield.
• Southport Lord Street ?? - this survived relatively intact as a Ribble bus station for many years after closure of the railway. The building is still there but I suspect the trainshed has now gone.

Bramley and Wonersh on the Guildford-Cranleigh line, now a nice stop on the Guildford to Shoreham Cycle route. (Although obviously if you're attempting the whole thing it might be somewhat soon.)

Llanilar (Aberystwyth-Carmarthen), now on the cycle trail. Both platforms survive, though the northern one is in a better condition than the southern one

Fort Brockhurst, Gosport. An interesting location on a former level crossing. Now a private house.

The nice station at Louth is still intact and good condition, albeit as housing. Riby Street Platform is still in place in Grimsby, although the line is still intact the track at the platform is now a road. Another Grimsby station, Hainton Street is still there as a house on Welholme St & Peakes Parkway.

What about Ichen Abbas?, the platforms are still there it just requires a line to be installed from Alresford and the Watercress Line can then run to it.

There's also a section of Southwater railway station (just the platform ramps and about a yard or so of the platform itself), West Grinstead remains along with a semaphore. There's Petworth but that does have track that leads to nowhere as the coaches there are now a holiday home.

Barcombe or Barcombe Mills (can't remember which), the platforms are still there and are used as someones garden. There's also Ardingley which may eventually reopen.

Heading north Rishworth remains where as Ripponden doesn't, Ledston as far as I'm aware the platform is there but is overgrown.

I belive that this was Hainton Street and this was the Riby Street platform

There's probably a few down the Lincolnshire Coast Line, as Firstby Junction is still intact, albeit overgrown with a nice gap in case the line ever were to reopen.

The trainshed was demolished a long time ago and the Callaghan Labour Govt started building a Govt Office there (it was abandoned when Thatcher won in 1979).

Now its the site of a Morrisons supermarket

Does Hadlow Road count? It does have a very small section of (non-operational) track.

I believe the platform at Barnwell Junction (Cambridge) is still intact, with the track in front of it now lifted (formerly to access the Barnwell Oil Terminal, and before that the long-closed Mildenhall Branch.

Also, Potton station on the Sandy-Cambridge route has partially surviving platforms and station, without any track.

I'll give you a niche one that's not on Disused Stations: Liss (LMR). This is the former Longmoor Military Railway station, which was separate from the mainline station. The platform is still there, and the trackbed is now a footpath. I think this is the only LMR station to have anything still extant - the A3 bypass was built right along the alignment through the large station at Longmoor Downs.

Hainton Street is correct, Riby Street wasn't on the current level crossing, the platform's toward Cleethorpes a little bit, on Murray Street I think.

Fliey Holiday Camp is a 4 platform station without tracks.

There's always the likes of Melrose, the buildings and one platform are still there with a main road on the former track bed, and Ravenscar on the Scarborough - Whitby route is still more or less there. And while we're at it theres one at Creagan on the former Connel - Ballahulish line which was restored about 10 years ago.

Tintern Station Monmouthshire hasn't seen a passenger train since 1959 but is still very busy with people as a tea rooms and visitor centre on Wye Valley Line route.

The original Ffestiniog Rly Station at Blaenau Ffestiniog survives as public toilets. At Carlingford on the Greenore branch the station survives as public toilets and tourist office, or did when I last passed through a few years back and Google suggests it's still there.
