I knew that - I was just pointing out how nice Wylam ale is even if they have gone a bit beardy hipster recently. Is the brewery still in exhibition park?

That aside the Boathouse is a VERY good pub. Very good indeed.

Oh definitely, just saying they don't sell Wylam beer after a bit of a disagreement a few years ago

And yes, it's in the old Palace of Arts in Exhibition Park. Worth a trip, but very hipster.

An old pub but a new station - the Dewdrop Inn is right next to the new Ilkeston station. I was there at the weekend and timed the journey from the bar to the Northbound platform at just over a minute!

The worst place for a major station not to have a pub anywhere near it must be Coventry. Amongst the closest is the Litten Tree which I can safely say I've never been in, but heard enough about it to avoid at all costs. This boozer is scary to walk past, never mind enter.

Not much around Plymouth Station.

I think what is now called the James Street Vaults is the nearest pub - see CAMRA's WhatPub site. Haven't been to Plymouth for a couple of years so no idea what it's like now.

it is a desert around there - some good pubs down by the harbour mind!

The Mines Tavern within Laxey Station area and The Terminus at Derby Castle Station on the Manx Electric Railway. Been in both this weekend.

Also The Sidings at Castletown Station on the Isle of Man Railway not been In there though.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the bar at Manchester Victoria, perhaps because it's ludicrously expensive? Something like £4.70 (I think it was) a pint, and that was just the house grog. It's cheaper in London!

A pity, because although the place itself has TV screens in every corner there are some tables on the concourse outside, where it's very pleasant indeed.

There are around four or five drinking establishments within St.Pancras station now with prices that appear to be trying to recoup the station refurbishment costs.

A pint of pale at the Sourced Market - not really so much a pub as a kind of 'continental style snack and pint on the go at a station kind of affair' at St.Pancras will set you back a fiver. it's a decent enough pint though. There are around four or five drinking establishments within St.Pancras station now with prices that appear to be trying to recoup the station refurbishment costs.

One of the best pubs for Kings X or St Pancras is through a tunnel/alley directly opposite the latter. It's an Irish pub that does great Thai food called The Dolphin.

Went to Carlisle station for a day of spotting sadly Wednesday's seem to be a poor day for freights through Carlisle so I paid a visit to the new bar in Platform 4 it is by no means easy to spot with all the scaffolding around the station for the stations refurbishment

However the bar is very nice very spacious had a pint of South West Orchards cider £3 odd which for a railway station I thought was very good , very polite friendly staff and they are very chatty with people which is great IMO

Surprised no one has mentioned the Doric Arch just outside Euston yet. I'm afraid it's Fuller's, but I like it and there are always a few guests on tap as well. Good food too, all much better than the crap offerings inside the station.

From my local line, these pubs are very near the stations:

Bristol Temple Meads - Wetherspoons pub 'Knights Templar'* 2 mins away from the station, plus a pub* next to Platform 3 in the station.

Keynsham - The Brassmill* (A 'gastropub') and The Lock Keeper* (By the weir) both about 4 mins from the station.

Oldfield Park - The Charmbury Arms (A small pub) about 2 mins from the station and The Royal Oak (on the main road, about 5 mins away from the station)

Bath Spa - There's Graze* (A bar and grill) that has an outside section which is pretty much on the platform at Bath Spa.

Freshford - The Freshford Inn*, about 5 mins away from the station.

Avoncliff - The Cross Guns*, a very nice pub with an atmosphere, and with a beer garden near the weir and the river Avon. Also 5 mins away from the station.

Bradford On Avon - The Three Horseshoes, about a 30 second walk from the station.

Trowbridge - The Rose and Crown*, about 1 min away from the station via the steps.

Westbury - The Railway Inn*.

Staying at Euston, the Euston Tap and its sister in the Euston station gatehouses have a wide range of craft (and real ales). Extraordinary buildings for a pub, but they're bigger than they look

Around the corner, the Bree Louise is a brilliant real ale pub, with a massive selection of interesting ales

...all of which tend to be too warm ( at the Bree Louise). Stick to the Euston Tap!

If we are also including pubs near stations I would Include The Star in Godalming just a 3 minute walk from the station.

I agree the Dorich Arch is a very nice pub always friendly staff and a great pint

went in once or twice, beer flat, southern, fullers rubbish and expensive. Left. Haven't been back. I will maintain that in the south they have no idea how to store and serve ale. Few of them know how to make it!

If you fancy somewhere more 'pubby' at Bath Spa, go out the back of the station, across the Halfpenny footbridge, left onto Widcombe parade, and go in the Ram (or the Ring o'Bells or the White Hart, although they're a lot less earthy!). Going out of the front of the station, it's a surprisingly long way until you hit anywhere good, mind you central Bath is tiny so everywhere's within 15 minutes walk.

Elsewhere - has anyone mentioned The South Western at St Denys?

Brighton - there are about a thousand pubs right outside the station, but I'd recommend the Evening Star or the Prince Albert, which is down the end of the tunnel under the front of the station.

The Station House Haslemere is now back open. Can't attest to the ale as I don't really drink it; but they are struggling a bit to make the lager taps work. Nice enough grub though; and rooms.

The HalfWay House, across the road, up the steps 20yds from the Market st exit of Edinburgh Waverley for all you real ale hounds. Does grub as well.

Nah, it's not that bad.

The handpulls are normally spot on. In summer, it can be a bit more variable with the gravity taps on the second bar, but that's just the nature of having the beer straight from the barrel. But I normally go for the cider, with glasses straight out the freezer, in the summer.

Must be one of the best situated pubs in the country. The railway, with its tiny halt, next to the river, with the pub garden on the riverbank by the weir, all overlooked by the canal aqueduct. The walk through the meadow from Bradford. Bliss!

And near Bristol Parkway, the Beaufort Arms. An Ember Inn about 3 minutes from the station with decent food and usually at least 6 ales on handpump.
