Myth number 754: Moderating a transport forum (as I do elsewhere) is always a thankful task

Myth 754a: Moderating any Internet forum is always a thankful task, and nobody ever gives you a hard time as a moderator. Everyone acknowledges that you willingly and freely contribute your time and energies to supporting and maintaining their community. As such, no member would ever have a grievance against a forum staff member.

And now for a myth that's believed by far too many people on this forum:

Myth 13 million: the fact that the southeast has the highest spending per capita on rail is due to some kind of anti-provincial bias by politicians (and is nothing to do with the fact that it's actually proportionate when you consider the number of journeys made in each region as opposed to the raw population).

And now for a myth that's believed by far too many people on this forum:

Myth 13 million: the fact that the southeast has the highest spending per capita on rail is due to some kind of anti-provincial bias by politicians (and is nothing to do with the fact that it's actually proportionate when you consider the number of journeys made in each region as opposed to the raw population).

Myth Avagadro Constant: Claiming that there are millions of pounds being spent on rail infrastructure nationally and using HS1, Thameslink and Crossrail as examples won't irritate those people in the provinces.

Myth this was probably said 38 pages ago but no way I'm trawling through it: When you have paid £8 for a First Class Advance with a YP railcard you are in the position to use the phrase "I paid extra for first class" with no sense of irony.

Pleathe Myth... Trains that are designed for short distances are never used for anything other than short distances.

Ooh myth myth I've got one too... People don't mind being uncomfortable for short distances when a "short distance" can be somewhat over an hour, or when two consecutive "short distances" are involved in one's journey (e.g. Southport to Chester).

Same scenario with any railcard/Advance purchase situation surely?

Relevant myth... people who buy Advance tickets are some sort of pariahs who just want to deprive the rail operators of their rightful due.
