Recent comments have made me think that "SWT have loads of spare DMUs" is becoming Received Wisdom on here.

They've loaned a DMU to FGW (who need capacity over the summer), just like East Coast have loaned an HST power car to XC, but I don't see people complaining that East Coast have stockpiled too many power cars (or that EMT had too many HSTs, when they surrendered one to East Coast).

But the Lymington shuttle plus the handful of other DMU services a day run wholly on electrified lines (which is partly a scheduling thing - just like Northern ran/run some DMUs wholly under the wires to Ilkley/ Hazel Grove etc - but nobody has ever complained that Northern had too many DMUs).

Maybe it's just me, but I'm noticing that SWT's "surplus" of DMUs is getting mentioned more and more.

It is, some of those diesel units on wholly electrified lines is because SWT dont have enough electrics so take away the diesel units and you would have to give them some more electric units.

A 456 would probably be ideal for the Lymington shuttle, although the issue would be getting it to and from that branch line every day

I'm not entirely sure how useful a donor card would have been in this situation. How long do you think tissues and organs remain viable for donation once the heart has stopped?

(Hint, the majority of organ donations come from patients who have suffered brain stem death or similar and who are located within the controlled environments of an ED Resus Bay or ICU.)

A donor card would have been quite useful for scooping up the little bits, a shovel would be better for the big bits though!
