Twitter isn't in the same league as FB, as it doesn't do anything sneaky to peel your privacy away slowly, just allows you to throw it away with glee, if you're stupid enough to do so.

Myth #Narcissism101:

Responding to an arsehole with humour makes him look bad and you look good. Responding to an arsehole with "you're being nasty BLOCKED" makes him look good and you look bad.

London Midland have grasped this. Northern, erm, haven't.

Modern trains are far better, cleaner, faster, punctual and are held in far greater esteem than the old loco hauled services that used to blight the land during the BR Blue era.

Yeah, the days of C Stock are fantastic, LT115B motors bursting armatures, murcury door interlockers going high resistance, pushback loadings so low that an ant can activate it, and so much passenger loading space that there's a whole unit's extra space at the back of some platforms...

HS2: It'll cost the Earth and be visible from the Moon.

Oh, and Myth #43: The HSTs will keep going forever, there's no reason to replace them, not with IEP or anything else. We'll still be running them on the GWML in 2313.

Myth number 2,224:

Passenger numbers have gone down on all routes where the stock has been replaced by something older (e.g. we can't have possibly London cast-offs from the 1980s running local trains in Manchester because passengers won't accept them, just like passenger numbers on Chiltern nosedived when some Birmingham services saw 21st century 168s were replaced by 1970s Mk3s).

Myth #43: The HSTs will keep going forever, there's no reason to replace them, not with IEP or anything else. We'll still be running them on the GWML in 2313.

I suppose we should have Myth #43a - HSTs are multiple units. Or loco hauled. Or whatever suits some people's agendas.

I propose we call them LHMUs. Loco-Hauled Multiple Units. The best of everything. That's why they'll never die. They are the pinnacle of railway engineering and can never be surpassed.

Newton Heath TMD is the pinnacle of engineering and I'm not talking myths here either. How we keep those aging, knackered 142s going reliably in 2013 really is saying something.
