I wonder how I manage to cross the tracks at public footpath crossing every morning when I walk my dog? Oh I know.............I use my common sense, stop look listen etc etc

We've got a lot of public footpaths crossing railway lines here in Kent.

And no I'm not having another argument on this thread

Myth: British rail was never late or ever had dirty trains and was perfect!
Myth: All Southeastern Trains are either late, cancelled, dirty, break down, falling apart and never cleaned. (or a mix of them)
Myth: There are no polite pleasant staff that work for Southeastern, they are all evil jobsworths that see joy in making passengers lives hell!

The claim may be technically correct. The reality and the actual impact on your wallet makes them more expensive than using a TOC website. Always.

I hate that I am about to defend them, but the marketing is "On average you could save as much as 43%..." rather than "On average the ticket you buy could be 43% cheaper....". The documents given to the ASA by TTL (according to the ASA) say that the average saving quoted includes the booking fees, though it does not specifically mention the credit card handling fees.

Anyway, getting back to railway myths (2013)........

No. The price of the ticket includes everything you must pay in order to obtain the ticket that you would not pay if you did not buy it. Calling part of the price a booking fee does not mean you can advertise or suggest prices exclude it.

A foot crossing is risk assessed and set up with measures to ensure it is as safe as possible for users. Weather this be good sighting, red/green lights, telephone authority, whistle boards on approach etc. Yes a bit of common sense but also following the instruction clearly printed on the crossing itself is a help.

That is a world away from suggesting you could use common sense to just jump down onto tracks at a station to pick someone up without first following the tried and tested procedures of stopping trains via the signaller etc.

No argument there I'm afraid, you are clutching at straws now!

It‘s equally a myth that everything was worse under BR, trains were always late under BR and trains were always dirty under BR.

(I say this as someone with direct experience of using the train in South Eastern land from the 80‘s onward before you ask).

That said, my sister who still lives there does tell me that the commuting experience has improved since the construction of the state funded high speed link.
