That's right - in Cartagena on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Both had been employed as engineering advisors on mining ventures - Stephenson in Colombia and Trevithick in Costa Rica. It struck me as ironic that they were reported as not having much in common despite apparently having come up with very similar ideas for improving the performance of steam locomotives. One wonders if, since Stephenson went home, arriving in late 1827 and within two years had built the Rocket - incorporating many ideas that Trevithick and others had pioneered - there might have been a bit more to it than that. History is written by the victors! Trevithick died penniless and is buried in an obscure graveyard in Dartford, whereas Stephenson is buried in Westminster Abbey, having left an estate worth £400,000 in 1859 money.

So a three parter for this one:

1) How many of the 2-10-0s were produced? (like @xotGD I’ll also allow +/-10)
2) How many of them eventually made it into BR service?
3) How many of the BR ones then made it into preservation?

This is quite tricky because I don’t know whether we’re going back to pre sealed beam rubber type class 87 style ones or not?
