Thanks -- I'll stay with the narrower gauges. Concerning the only public 600mm gauge line ever to run in a certain Continental country (part of it "resurrected" long after original closure, and now running as a tourist line): a town which was one of the line's termini, shares its name with a currently prominent football luminary. Please give the name of the town (and the chap); and identify the country in question.

No, again (to be pedantic, France once had quite a lot of public 600mm gauge, of which the Pithiviers -- Toury happened to be the last survivor) -- but you're moving in the right direction !

(I have no interest whatever in sport; but seem to have heard by chance via the media innumerable times this year, the name of the "football bod" as per mention in my initial question -- it has always put me in mind of the 600mm line concerned; and the town formerly on it -- same name as that of the football guy. Am now wondering a little uneasily, about namesakes in football, of the Greek / French / Belgian places put forward to date -- but the bloke I'm thinking of is so very prominent on that scene, that even someone like me has heard of him...)

Seems that this one is "done". The "football person", whose name seems to be on everyone's lips nowadays, is Pep Guardiola. The town is Guardiola, in the Catalan Pyrenees, thus in Spain. Guardiola is or was the northern terminus of a line of the Catalanes metre-gauge system; was connected-with there by the 600mm gauge line, which ran some way yet further northward to its outer terminus of Castellar d'en Huch. The 600mm gauge closed in I think 1963: a portion of it was revived and relaid, very much later, as a tourist line; now still, I believe, running as such (all workings diesel). Our man Pep is indeed from Catalonia; from the Barcelona area, I gather, not from the town with the G-name.
