Well done Ashley Hill, you have got them all correct, congratulations.

2416 was named "Mum in a Million 1997 Doreen Scanlon",
Doreen Scanlon actually came from Cardiff and travelled to Waterloo to name the unit.

Ooh - it was just a guess !

At the Grouping in 1923, the GWR took over a large number of Welsh railways. They also took over two companies, whose lines were entirely in England - name those two companies

I'd beg to differ, and say: Midland & South Western Junction Ry.; and Cleobury Mortimer & Ditton Priors Light Railway.

the WC & P was taken over by the GWR, but not until 1940 - so hardly "at the grouping"

Two part question :-

Which 442 unit was only one not to be named at a mainline station ?

Which HRH named a 442 unit, where and which unit please ?

I will hazard a guess that it was Gerry Newson on the grounds that I think one unit was named after a Bournemouth depot employee and I know it wasnt Doreen Scanlon who worked there and you already said that one was named at Waterloo. I shall look foolish if there was an employee called Thomas Hardy or Mary Rose though wont I.

You are correct @Graham H that it was U.2424 Gerry Newson named in Bournemouth Depot.Sadly Gerry had passed away from cancer.
The unit was on long term maintenance at the time and hauled out by 73109 for the naming ceremony.

Now all you need to work out which HRH named another 442 and where ?

OK so heres the next wrong answer ! Wessex Cancer trust by Duke/Duchess of Wessex. Not sure there is a Duke of Wessex, maybe he is an Earl so that might not even be an HRH...………...

Your persistence has paid off @Graham H it was u.2418 Wessex Cancer Trust but it wasn't the Earl of Wessex aka Prince Edward.

Clue time: This HRH doesn't have that status anymore.
