OK so not modern and I would think a non stop run would be required which presumably means not a class 37 on normal service as I dont think any service trains were non stop ? So possibly a railtour and the only one I can think of is far too obvious given your ID.

I am fairly certain this is the correct answer. This was involved in a crash with (a 4-VEP??) I think. Pretty sure it was NOT Stewarts Lane or Hither Green where it was cut. I had a fair amount of mileage behind it - and in front of it from Weymouth.

Yes, it was cut up at Slade Green, so having won the thread from 40 145, he now wins it back from me.

The locomotive was written off after a crash, yes - it ran into a stranded unit that it was trying to rescue that had hit a landslide. This was near Micheldever, if I remember rightly. which does make it odd that it wasn't taken to Eastleigh?

No, I didn't get any flak - I bought the data panel long before I even bought this house, let alone got married. Incidentally HQ permitted an inspection of it while the locomotive was still generally intact so as to indicate to the depot manager exactly which piece I was after, plus a direct collection from the depot once it was ready, so I got two officially sanctioned visits to Slade Green out of this purchase! I was originally after both data panels, but one of them had a main frame member directly behind it and it wasn't possible to recover it. The trimmed off corner of the one I did buy was for the same reason - a diagonal frame member was across there.

As the accident happened at Micheldever any reason why it was taken to Slade Green instead of Eastleigh. Having seen a picture of the front end its surprising both train crew survived.

Well this will take a while as I thought just about all of them got names ! No idea of set numbers but I will give a few I can remember.... Beaulieu. The New Forest, someone that was a Mum in a million, City of Portsmouth. Operation Overlord. Well thats a starter. I am sure a few more will come to light. Pretty sure Woking, Southampton and Bournmouth appeared given they were prime stops, not sure about Weymouth though. Hope this helps jog the brain cells
