How about five?

Five is correct. [1] Wallangarra (Queensland 3' 6" / New South Wales 4' 8-and-a-half ").

[2] Albury (NSW 4' 8-and-a-half " / Victorian Railways 5' 3"). Journey through Victoria and into South Australia to

[3] Terowie (meeting point of South Australian Railways 5' 3", and 3' 6", lines).

[4] Port Augusta (SAR 3' 6" / Commonwealth Railways 4' 8-and-a-half " Trans-Australian line).

[5] Kalgoorlie (Commonwealth 4' 8-and-a-half" / Western Australian Government Rys. 3' 6").

The significance of 1927 is that in that year, the New South Wales Government Railways' route was completed, through to Broken Hill. 4' 8-and-a-half" east of that city; and 3' 6" west thereof, linking in to South Australian 3' 6" system. This potentially cut out one change of gauge -- though I suspect that taking this route might have been no quicker than travelling, as above, via Melbourne and Adelaide.

EbbwJunction1, the trans-shipment yard is yours.

The South Durham & Lancashire Union Railway once linked Barnard Castle with Tebay.

Name at least 5 viaducts or bridges between Barnard Castle and Tebay. You are not allowed to use the internet to help.

Attempt of serious kind (no Internet use, word of honour !)

Belah; Deepdale; Whingill; Rigg Beck; Smardale

Apologies! I didn't see this.

Belah, Smardale and Deepdale are all correct.

'Whingill' is nearly there - it's actually Merrygill. And as for Rigg Beck...Percy Beck is the correct name. Well done though! :D

I'll give you that, anyway. Your floor.

Thanks -- however, I'll say "open floor".

I hope that this one is acceptable:

Which castaway (a television writer) on Desert Island Discs asked for a model railway going all around the island?

If it's not, try this one:

Which designer of a famous railway item has been "honoured" on that item?

EbbwJunction1, 43002 and Sir Kenneth Grange?

Yes, that's right.

The answer to this one: "Which castaway (a television writer) on Desert Island Discs asked for a model railway going all around the island?" is Dennis Potter.

I'm happy for you to set the next question, but if you want to yield to contractor1, I'm happy with this as well. (I don't know the answer to his!)

I think it's The Edge to set the question, but I wondered if the answer to Contractor1s question was the set of points or a signal maybe that join the Bluebell railway to Network rail? Mainly because of it saying EG etc.

I've got nothing at the moment so keep it flowing Contractor1s question
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Its been over 24hrs and there has been nothing from Contractor1s so lets keep it rolling. And remember, Google is bad...

Name that depot;

1. 6F
2. 84G
3. NC
4. EX
5. 81A

(For 6F and 84G I'll accept any of the correct answers)

I'm hopeless with steam era shed codes but I'll name the more modern ones to give someone else a leg up and have a wild uneducated guess at the others.

1 Don't know - Stratford?
2 Don't know - Hither Green?
3 NC - Norwich Crown Point I think
4 EX - Exeter (I ought to know that one)
5 81A - I think that's Old Oak

Cowley can't be beaten with 3 out of 5 so the floor is his.

martinsh gets a free point, 6F was Machynlleth, also acceptable was Bidston or Aberystwyth VoR

84G was Shrewsbury or Kidderminster.

Oh I wasn't expecting that.

OK here goes then. In 1990 one of the worst films ever made featuring two of the UKs most famous actors was partly filmed on one of our preserved railways.
1 What was the film?
2 What was the railway?
3 Who were the actors?

I mean it was bad. Really really bad. The Radio Times guide to films described it as: "A career low for all concerned"

Clue time I suppose. The two leading actors played con men, much of the film was set on board a train and it was a comedy. Well it was meant to be anyway.

The appalling Bullseye directed by Michael Winner. Michael Caine & Roger Moore were in it as well as a cameo by John Cleese & I think it was filmed on the Mid Hants

I want to say Sicily but I don't know the names of the southern towns. There are plenty of railways on the island though I think.
